Which Used Chevrolet Spark Trim Is Right for Me?

The 2019 Chevrolet Spark comes in four trims: LS, 1LT, ACTIV, and 2LT. All models feature a four-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive. A manual transmission is standard, and a continuously variable automatic transmission is available in each trim.

The base model has cool amenities that include an infotainment system with smartphone integration and a Wi-Fi hot spot, but this model lacks common features like cruise control, power windows, and power door locks. For that reason, you should spring for at least the 1LT model, which adds those functions. The ACTIV and 2LT trims come with synthetic leather upholstery and heated front seats; driver assistance features other than the standard rearview camera are limited to certain 2LT models with a specific package.

  • Chevrolet Spark LS: Standard features in the 2019 Spark LS include cloth upholstery, manual climate control, a rearview camera, and a 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and two USB ports.
  • Chevrolet Spark 1LT: The Spark 1LT adds power door locks and windows, keyless entry, cruise control, steering wheel-mounted controls, alloy wheels, a six-speaker stereo, and satellite radio. A sunroof is available.
  • Chevrolet Spark ACTIV: The Spark ACTIV has a raised ride height and unique exterior design elements. It also includes synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and fog lights.
  • Chevrolet Spark 2LT: Additional features in the Spark 2LT include proximity keyless entry, push-button start, and rear parking sensors. Models with the Driver Confidence package have lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and low-speed automatic emergency braking.

What Does Chevrolet's Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Cover?

Chevrolet offers a certified pre-owned program for vehicles six years old or less and with fewer than 75,000 miles. Eligibility is determined by the vehicle’s initial sale date. For its certified pre-owned vehicles, Chevy extends the original new-car powertrain warranty to six years or 100,000 miles. These vehicles also get a one-year/12,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty after the three-year/36,000-mile new-car warranty expires. Chevrolet CPO vehicles must pass a 172-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and 24-hour roadside assistance may be available, so read Chevy’s warranty page carefully.

Chevrolet has one of the better CPO programs among affordable carmakers, but Hyundai, Buick, and Kia are better, according to our analysis.

2019 Chevrolet Spark Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: 2019 Chevrolet Spark or 2019 Chevrolet Sonic?

The 2019 Chevrolet Sonic is another subcompact car from the brand, and it’s a much better choice than the Spark. The Sonic is roomier than the Spark, and it’s available as a sedan or hatchback, both of which seat five (compared to the Spark's four). The five-door Sonic has more cargo space than the Spark as well. A standard turbocharged engine gives the Sonic peppier acceleration, as well. Both of these cars rate well for predicted reliability, and they have a similar list of standard and available features, but they suffer from drab-looking cabins.

Which Is Better: 2019 Chevrolet Spark or 2019 Ford Fiesta?

The 2019 Ford Fiesta is one of the most fun-to-drive cars in this class. It boasts athletic handling, as well as punchy acceleration if you opt for the ST model and its roughly 200-horsepower turbocharged engine. You can get the Ford as either a sedan or hatchback. Both body styles have cramped rear-seat space like the Spark, and the hatchback version has a low amount of cargo space. Also, several Fiesta trims lack a touch-screen infotainment system. The Chevy's positives in this matchup include a better predicted reliability rating and more standard features. These are both midpack choices in the class. Go with the Fiesta if you want a sportier drive, or pick the Spark for more features and dependability.

2019 Spark Performance

How Does the 2019 Chevrolet Spark Drive?

The Chevrolet Spark’s tiny four-cylinder engine doesn't even crack 100 horsepower. You should find enough oomph for darting around the city and taking off from a stop, but that's about it. This small car takes a while to get up to higher speeds, so plan your freeway merging and passing appropriately. If you're able, buy the Spark with the manual transmission. The available continuously variable automatic transmission hampers acceleration.

The Spark easily navigates tight streets and traffic jams. Its small size makes it easy to park, and a tight turning radius provides great maneuverability. The ride is generally comfortable, though it can require some corrections to stay centered in a lane at higher speeds.

  • Engine: 98-horsepower 1.5-liter four-cylinder
  • Drivetrain: front-wheel drive
  • Transmission: standard five-speed manual; available continuously variable automatic (CVT)
Does the 2019 Chevrolet Spark Get Good Gas Mileage?

The 2019 Spark returns pretty good fuel economy for a subcompact car.

  • Automatic: 30/38 mpg city/highway
  • Manual: 29/38 mpg
  • ACTIV, automatic: 30/37 mpg
  • ACTIV, manual: 29/37 mpg

2019 Spark Interior

How Many People Does the 2019 Spark Seat?

The 2019 Spark seats four people in two rows. Up front, taller drivers and passengers should find sufficient shoulder and headroom. However, don’t expect to get too comfortable, as the seats lack lateral support. The main seating position is also a little too upright, and there aren't any power adjustments available. The back seat comes up very short on legroom, leading to most occupants feeling cramped.

Interior quality is a mixed bag. There are some nice materials that make up a seemingly sleek and modern design. However, most surfaces are plastic and hard to the touch, and overall fit and finish is unsatisfying. Furthermore, a lot of outside road and wind noise gets into the cabin.

Standard seating features:

  • Cloth upholstery
  • Manually adjustable front seats

Available seating features:

  • Synthetic leather upholstery
  • Heated front seats
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
How Many Child Car Seats Fit in the 2019 Chevrolet Spark?

The 2019 Spark has two complete sets of LATCH car-seat connectors, one for each rear seat. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave this LATCH system the second-highest rating of Acceptable for ease of use. The lower anchors are set too deeply in the seats, and it can be hard to locate the tether anchors.

2019 Chevrolet Spark Features

The Chevy Spark's standard infotainment system has a simple menu structure that makes for straightforward operation. Its high position on the dash, though, can make it hard to reach from the driver's seat. Additionally, some on-screen icons are small and difficult to read. The physical controls on the center stack are clearly marked.

  • Standard infotainment features: a 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and two USB ports
  • Available infotainment features: a six-speaker stereo and satellite radio
  • Additional standard features: manual climate control
  • Other available features: power door locks and windows, keyless entry, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, cruise control, steering wheel-mounted controls, and a sunroof
