2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Overview

When it was new, reviewers praised the 2009 Silverado 1500 for its diverse powertrain lineup and comfortable ride. While few reviewers tested the Silverado with the base V6 engine, most tested models with one of the three V8 engines, and generally agreed that each engine offers ample power. Both two and four-wheel drive were offered when the Silverado was new. A two-wheel drive Silverado with the base V6 engine achieves 15/20 mpg city/highway, which is typical for the class. The Silverado can tow up to 10,700 pounds when equipped with the 6.0-liter V8.

Reviewers were generally pleased with the Silverado’s cabin, and said it is well-built with quality materials and plenty of space. A regular cab model can seat up to three people, while extended and crew cabs offer seats for up to six people. Most critics said the front seats offer ample space and comfort. Some said that the back seats of extended cab models are a little short on passenger space, and most agreed that the crew cab is the best choice for those who regularly carry passengers. Like most pickups, the base trim comes with few notable standard features, including a CD stereo with an auxiliary input jack and satellite radio. Features available on upper trims or as options when it was new include heated, power-adjustable front seats, a Bose stereo, leather seats, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth, a power sunroof and a backup camera.

Other Trucks to Consider

With a high-quality, spacious interior, upscale ride and great safety scores, the 2009 Ford F-150 is a top choice among full-size pickups. It also has a higher towing capacity than the Silverado.

The 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 is mechanically identical to the Silverado, with the same powertrains and comfortable ride quality. Adding the Sierra to your search will give you a wider selection of trucks to choose from and could help you find a better deal.
