2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Hybrid Review

While it can’t tow or haul as much as most rivals, the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid also uses less fuel, and reviewers loved its comfortable ride.

Pros & Cons

  • Better fuel economy than other full-size trucks
  • Good ride quality
  • Low towing capacity

2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Hybrid Overview

At 21/22 mpg city/highway, the 2010 Silverado Hybrid gets better fuel economy than any other full-size pickup, and a few reviewers said that it rides just as comfortably as the gas-only Silverado 1500. However, like many hybrids, some reviewers noticed that the regenerative brakes are a bit touchy. The Silverado Hybrid is powered by a V8 engine and a pair of electric motors that are mated to an electronically variable transmission. Aside from the rough transitions between gas and electric power, test drivers said that the Silverado Hybrid has ample power in all situations. The 2010 Silverado Hybrid was available with rear- and four-wheel drive. Rear-wheel drive models can tow up to 6,100 pounds, which is significantly less towing capacity than most gas-only pickups. The gas-only Silverado 1500, for example, can tow up to 10,700 pounds.

The Silverado Hybrid’s cab is nearly identical to what you’ll find in its gas-only sibling. Some reviewers noted that there aren’t many soft-touch materials inside, but most still liked the Silverado Hybrid’s interior. The Silverado Hybrid only comes as a five- or six-seat crew cab. Reviewers said the front seats are comfortable, but some would’ve liked a little extra side support. Most agreed that the second row has plenty of passenger space. The Silverado Hybrid comes in two trim levels. The base 1HY trim has a front bench seat, cloth upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth and a six-speaker stereo with satellite radio. The 2HY trim adds leather seats, power-adjustable front bucket seats, rear parking sensors, a Bose stereo with USB port and navigation. A backup camera and a power sunroof are also available.

Other Trucks to Consider

While it uses more fuel, the gas-only 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 gets decent fuel economy for the class, and can tow much more than the hybrid model. Additionally, the Silverado 1500 is available with a longer cargo bed and multiple cab configurations.

Reviewers said the 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 has one of the most comfortable rides in the class, thanks to its unique rear suspension design. The Ram 1500 can also be equipped with a powerful Hemi V8.
