2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Review

Note: This review was created when the 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was new.

The Monte Carlo delivers decent fuel economy, a comfortable and spacious back seat, and muscle-car styling, but it can't match the sporty handling and more modern safety features of others in its class. The V8 Monte Carlo SS trim-level is quick, but front-wheel drive limits its potential.

Pros & Cons

  • Respectable fuel economy for its size and performance
  • An overall pleasing exterior design, reflecting its deep NASCAR heritage
  • Spacious, coupe class-leading back seat that comfortably seats three adults
  • Mediocre power from a somewhat dated V6 engine
  • Front-wheel drive limits true handling and acceleration performance
  • Lacks more advanced safety features available in class competitors

2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Overview

Although the 2007 Chevy Monte Carlo is stylish, comfortable, and delivers respectable gas mileage, there are other vehicles within its class and price-range that offer better sports-performance and more safety features. According to Edmunds, "The Chevrolet Monte Carlo traces its roots back several decades to the height of the muscle car era, when Chevy sought to entice customers with a sporty, upscale rear-drive V8 coupe that provided a balance of performance and comfort in a stylish package." While the Monte Carlo still offers adequate -- and often times notable -- performance, unfortunately reviewers think this generation front-wheel drive Monte Carlo can't recapture its muscle car past.

Nevertheless, reviewers agree the 2007 Monte Carlo is a pretty good value. "Overall, this Chevy Monte Carlo is a spacious sport coupe that offers buyers a reasonably good comfort/performance trade-off for a relatively low sticker price," says Edmunds. IntelliChoice gives the Monte Carlo a rating of "average" for its predicted five-year total cost of ownership, compared to other vehicles in its class.
