2020 Chevrolet Impala Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 8.0

The 2020 Chevrolet Impala has a decent cabin. The design is pleasing, and build quality is good, but there are a few low-rent plastics scattered about. Passenger and cargo space are great for the large car class, and the infotainment system is easy to use.

  • "Flimsy plastic panels on the center console contribute to a lower-quality environment than those of competitors." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "Step inside the Impala's interior and you're met with serious square footage, modern design and impressive fit and finish." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "Between its limo-sized interior, clever infotainment system and tastefully understated styling, the Impala appeals to those in search of a cushy, feature-packed four-door." -- Left Lane News (2016)

 Seating

This Chevy seats five people, and the seats are a combination of cloth and synthetic leather. Genuine leather upholstery is available, as is an eight-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, heated front seats, ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.

There’s plenty of space in both rows for people to stretch out comfortably. Some critics long for more support, however, while others find the seats to be well-bolstered. The upright driver’s seat provides an excellent view of the road, but some thick roof pillars can block your view around corners.

For securing child safety seats, the Impala has two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats. The rear middle seat has a tether and one lower anchor, and it has the ability to borrow an additional anchor from the driver’s side seat. For ease of use, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave this system the second-highest rating of Acceptable.

  • "… you’ll be impressed by the sedan’s cavernous interior space. Even with five adults, no one will be jostling one another, especially with the Impala’s supportive seats keeping you firmly in place." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)
  • "The adequately padded front seats offer eight-way power adjustments. Side bolstering is minimal, and the optional ventilation is weak. The adult-friendly rear seats are only bested by those in the Avalon for legroom in the class." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "Passenger room is abundant, especially in the palatial rear seat area, and there's also impressive material quality to go with the spatial quantity: available perforated leather upholstery, sueded microfiber, contrast stitching and soft-touch materials give the cabin a decidedly upscale feel." -- Left Lane News (2019)

Interior Features

The Impala comes standard with an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a six-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, three USB ports, and satellite radio. Dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, push-button start, proximity keyless entry, and a rearview camera are also standard.

The touch screen is intuitive and responsive, though it’s positioned a bit awkwardly for the driver to reach. There are handy physical controls for some settings.

Available equipment includes navigation, wireless device charging, an 11-speaker Bose surround-sound stereo, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a dual-pane sunroof.

Additional safety features are available. These include adaptive cruise control, lane change alert, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and forward collision warning.

  • "With quick response, an intuitive interface and detailed graphics, Chevy’s MyLink infotainment system is one of the best. The system comes with onboard Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, voice activation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a large 8-inch screen. An easily programmed navigation system is available and standard on the Premier." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)
  • "The majority of primary and secondary controls are well-placed and clearly labeled, but the touchscreen is a bit of a reach and at an upward angle. … But the MyLink system's menus are intuitive and straightforward." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "Redundant dashboard knobs and steering wheel controls give users alternate options for controlling MyLink, and there's also a voice recognition system for hands-free calls, destination entering, song selection and more. Its 'natural language' capability can recognize a staggering number of phrases - effectively eliminating the need for the clunky and cumbersome memorized commands." -- Left Lane News (2019)

Cargo

With 18.8 cubic feet of space, the Impala has one of the roomiest trunks in the large car class. The rear seats fold to provide more space, and the seats fold even with the trunk’s floor.

  • "Heading out for a long weekend, or just a golf outing, the 18.8-cubic-foot trunk will swallow everything you need." -- Kelley Blue Book (2019)
  • "… the Impala now boasts the biggest trunk in the segment, positively huge at 18.8 cubic feet." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "A standard 60/40-split folding backseat expands the Impala's already deep trunk. The opening between the passenger compartment and cargo area when the seats are down is sizable, and the backrest folds flat with the cargo floor." -- Cars.com (2014)
