2011 Chevrolet Impala Review

The 2011 Chevrolet Impala has good fuel economy for a large car, but it also has poor interior quality and underwhelming performance.

Pros & Cons

  • Seats up to six
  • Good power and fuel economy
  • Dated four-speed automatic transmission
  • Sloppy handling
  • Poor interior material quality

2011 Chevrolet Impala Overview

Reviewers agreed that the 2011 Chevrolet Impala was not their top pick in its class when it was new. With sleep-inducing driving dynamics and an antiquated four-speed automatic transmission, the Impala trails the competition’s performance. The Impala has a smooth ride, but reviewers said its steering lacked feel, and that it didn’t corner well. The Impala offers good fuel economy, and while it doesn’t have a bad safety rating, other large cars performed better in crash tests.

Inside, reviewers liked the vast cargo space and capability to seat six, but they found that the Impala didn’t stack up to the competition when it came to interior quality or comfort. Many test drivers thought the cabin was roomy enough, but some wanted more legroom. Test drivers appreciated the ease of use and accessibility of the controls in the Impala. Some auto critics were also satisfied with the number of useful standard features, but others felt that large cars such as the Ford Taurus offered better high-tech cabin electronics.

Other Cars to Consider

The highly-ranked 2010 Ford Taurus, which was our 2010 Best Family Sedan for the Money, is a sensible used large car. The Taurus offers good performance and excellent interior quality in a stylish package. When it was new, reviewers liked the Taurus’ interior comfort and available cabin electronics. However, the Impala gets better fuel economy.

You should also check out the 2010 Buick Lucerne. Reviewers liked the Lucerne’s comfortable, spacious interior when it was new. Like the Impala, the Lucerne can seat up to six, but it has slightly less cargo space.
