2010 Chevrolet Impala Review

The 2010 Chevrolet Impala offers good crash test scores, however, other 2010 large cars offer nicer interiors and better performance.

Pros & Cons

  • Seats up to six people
  • Quiet ride
  • Dated four-speed automatic transmission
  • Sluggish handling
  • Poor interior material quality

2010 Chevrolet Impala Overview

When it was new, reviewers felt that the 2010 Chevrolet Impala trailed the competition. While large cars like the Buick LaCrosse and Ford Taurus had won test drivers over with their recent redesigns, many felt that the Impala fell short with bland performance and subpar interior quality. Still, the Impala has a smooth ride and spacious interior, but that’s not uncommon among large cars.

The Impala offers a quiet, spacious cabin, but aside from that, test drivers said that the interior is sterile and uninspiring. Their main gripe was the Impala’s cheap interior material quality, which made it less refined than the Impala’s top rivals. One of the few things reviewers liked about the interior was the control layout, which they felt was easy to use.

However, auto reviewers gave the Impala another demerit because it offers fewer standard features than other large cars. Standard features include cloth seats, a power driver seat, dual-zone climate control, a six-speaker audio system, satellite radio, an auxiliary input jack and OnStar. Notable available features include remote engine start, heated front seats, leather upholstery, a Bose stereo, power sunroof and Bluetooth. There are also two front seating configurations: bucket seats with a center console or a bench seat that increases the Impala’s seating capacity to six, which is a rare feature.

Other Cars to Consider

If you’re seeking a large car with comparable fuel economy and competent performance, the 2009 Ford Taurus is worth a look. Additionally, the Taurus performed well in crash tests. Reviewers were also satisfied with the quality, space and comfort inside the Taurus.

If you like the Taurus as a viable alternative to the Impala, you should also consider its platform mate, the 2009 Mercury Sable. Like the Taurus, the Sable offers top safety scores, as well as a spacious interior. Since the Sable and Taurus are so similar, it makes sense to shop for both models so you can find the best used car deal.
