2010 Chevrolet HHR Overview

The 2010 Chevrolet HHR can be configured with a choice of three engines: two four-cylinder engines and a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The base LS and 1LT trims are standard with a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is available on the 2LT and was optional on the 1LT when it was new. Both four-cylinder engines come with a standard manual transmission. However, reviewers liked the available automatic transmission more. The base engine with the available automatic transmission gets 22/30 mpg city/highway, which is high for the class. Test drivers found the base engine underpowered, particularly on the highway. For a more entertaining driving experience and an HHR you can quickly maneuver on the highway, they recommended the SS trim with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and manual transmission. Critics said the SS trim’s brakes perform very well, while reviewers reported that other trims have a difficult time stopping in a straight line.

Reviewers liked the supportive seating in the front seats. Even though the HHR seats up to five, reviewers suggest only having two adults in the back seat. At 25.2 cubic feet, the HHR does not have a lot of cargo space behind the back seat. Satellite radio, an auxiliary jack, cruise control and keyless entry are all standard on the HHR. For more options, like Bluetooth, a navigation system, a premium sound system and remote engine start, look at higher trims or packages that were available when the HHR was new.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2010 Chevrolet HHR has good fuel economy for the class, but the 2010 VW Jetta SportWagen’s diesel engine beats it with 30/42 mpg. The Jetta SportWagen also hauls more cargo with all seats in use.

The 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour has available all-wheel drive. It also has a better safety score than the HHR. Its cargo space is slightly larger than the Chevrolet HHR’s.
