2013 Chevrolet Corvette Overview

The Corvette offers three different V8 engines that reviewers say make it competitive with sports cars that cost significantly more. Test drivers say the 2013 Corvette is easy to drive and live with on a daily basis, which isn’t always the case with cars that are this powerful. Test drivers also like the Chevrolet Corvette’s nimble, lively handling and its comfortable ride. The Corvette also gets reasonable fuel economy, at up to 16/26 mpg city/highway. As a whole, reviewers agree that from a performance and value standpoint, the Corvette is hard to beat.

While test drivers are thrilled with the 2013 Chevy Corvette’s performance, they’re less enthusiastic about its interior. They say its standard leather bucket seats are comfortable and supportive, but that the cabin is outdated and somewhat cheap in comparison with more recently redesigned rivals. Auto critics also dislike that there is little to distinguish the most expensive ZR1 model’s cabin from that of the base model, which costs half as much. The Corvette comes standard with a seven-speaker stereo with satellite radio. Options include a Bose stereo, navigation, Bluetooth, a head-up display and a leather package that wraps the car’s dashboard in leather and other higher-quality materials. For 2013, a 60th anniversary package adds distinctive interior badges and trim.

  • "It has evolved from a somewhat humble 2-seat convertible into a rip-roaring performance machine that's amazingly docile as a daily driver." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Indeed, the Vette still gives you more bang for your buck in terms of power than anything else on the road. Still, its lack of sophistication means cars like the Nissan GT-R and Porsche's Boxster, Cayman and 911 will continue to hold appeal." -- Edmunds
  • "Whether you've dreamed of a Corvette ever since you were old enough to see over the steering wheel, or you just desire a bona fide performance car that doesn't require a millionaire's checkbook to purchase, the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette won't steer you wrong." -- Kelley Blue Book

Other Sports Cars to Consider

The 2013 Porsche Boxster and Cayman are regarded by reviewers as some of the most balanced, fun-to-drive sports cars on the market. Reviewers say that what these mechanically-similar cars lack in power to the Corvette, they make up for with lively handling, as well as much more upscale interiors.

The 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 costs just a bit more than the base Corvette, but offers more power than the 638-horsepower ZR1 model, which costs about twice as much as the GT500. The GT500 also has a small back seat, which adds a dose of practicality, and is available as a coupe or convertible.

The 2013 Chevrolet Corvette seats two people, offers two body styles (coupe and convertible) and is available in five different models. The base and Grand Sport models are offered as either a coupe with a removable targa top or a convertible. The Z06 and ZR1 come as coupes without a removable targa panel, and the 427 is convertible only. Each model adds to the Corvette’s performance components and abilities, as well as its standard and available features. 2013 is the last model year of the current generation, as the seventh generation Corvette debuts for the 2014 model year.
