2010 Chevrolet Colorado Review

While the 2010 Chevrolet Colorado is a decent choice for weekend trips to the lumber yard, it trails other compact trucks that have nicer interiors and better safety scores.

Pros & Cons

  • User-friendly controls
  • Poor safety score
  • Low-rent interior

2010 Chevrolet Colorado Overview

When it was new, reviewers weren’t especially impressed with the Colorado’s performance. Although they liked the extra power from the available V8 engine, four- and five-cylinder models received mixed reviews. Critics appreciated their smooth power delivery, but also said that neither engine feels particularly strong. The Colorado’s ride and handling also drew mixed reviews. Some test drivers said the Colorado has a comfortable ride, while others wrote that it is jarring over imperfect roads. A manual transmission is standard with four-cylinder models, while five-cylinder and V8 models come with an automatic. With the four-cylinder engine and automatic transmission, the Colorado gets 18/25 mpg city/highway, which is similar to a comparably-equipped 2010 Toyota Tacoma and about average for the class. The V8-powered Colorado can tow up to 6,000 pounds, which is less than what some of its V6-powered rivals can tow.

The Colorado regular cab can seat up to three people, the extended cab can seat up to five and the crew cab can seat up to six. Most reviewers found the front seats plenty comfortable, but many also mention that the extended cab’s rear jump seats are only suitable for children. The crew cab was deemed the most comfortable for rear passengers, but some test drivers still thought that its rear quarters are a bit cramped. Most critics noted that while the Colorado’s cabin has user-friendly climate and radio controls, it also has a lot of cheap materials. The base Work Truck model is very basic, with features like crank windows and manually-adjustable mirrors. Available features include power windows, door locks and mirrors, a CD changer stereo with satellite radio and remote keyless entry.

Other Trucks to Consider

The 2010 Toyota Tacoma is well-liked for its high-quality interior and powerful, available V6. The Tacoma has a great safety score, and V6 models can tow more than the V8-equipped Colorado.

The 2010 Nissan Frontier is a top-ranked 2010 compact pickup for its good engine performance and ride quality, as well as its functional interior design.
