2019 Chevrolet Blazer Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 7.6

The five-seat Chevrolet Blazer's sporty design continues inside with details such as Camaro-inspired air vents, a hexagonal infotainment display, and available red accents. This SUV has comfy seats that slide and recline in both rows, appealing standard technology, and mostly handsome materials. However, the interior materials in some upper trim levels aren’t nice enough to justify the high sticker prices, and the upper trims of the Blazer are short on standard features compared to rivals. The Blazer’s cargo space is also small for the class.

  • "The design inside feels economical but thoughtful. The cabin's design is simple and mostly well made. There are a lot of small goodies throughout the cabin that are fun to discover." -- CNET
  • "The quality of interior materials is high. The leather upholstery on the top Blazer trim isn't luxury-grade, but it's soft and pliable and feels durable. The same can be said for the materials and plastics that line the dash and door panels. They aren't up to Cadillac levels but are just fine for the heavy family use that most Blazers will face. Other features include … active noise cancellation to help quiet the cabin out on the road." -- Edmunds
  • "Material quality is below average for this class, though, with some soft touchpoints higher on the dash but plenty of hard plastic lower down, and none of the trimmings are particularly inspiring." -- Car and Driver

Seating

The Blazer is a 2-row SUV with seating for five. Average-sized adults should have no trouble getting comfortable in both rows, and they will certainly appreciate the second row's sliding, reclining seats and generous amount of legroom. Headspace is a little tight for the tallest of travelers, especially with the optional panoramic sunroof.

Cloth upholstery, a six-way manually adjustable driver's seat, a four-way manually adjustable front passenger seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are standard. Available upgrades include an eight-way power adjustable driver's seat, perforated leather upholstery, leather-trimmed seats with suede microfiber inserts, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.

For child safety seats, the Blazer has a full set of LATCH anchors on both second-row outboard seats.

  • "The cabin's space is well utilized, with plentiful legroom and headroom front and rear and multi-adjustable rear seats that slide, recline, and fold flat to create an uninterrupted cargo floor." -- Car and Driver
  • "Overall, interior space is good, especially considering the Blazer's relatively compact dimensions. Front seat passengers have ample head and leg room, and there's enough room for a couple of adults in the Blazer's second row." -- Left Lane News
  • The 2019 Blazer is … quite wide, resulting in more shoulder room in the back seat relative the Edge and all compact models. You're more likely to fit three across or fit people on either side of a child seat. However, rear seat legroom at 39.6 inches is only similar to larger compact SUVs like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, while it has less headroom. That sleek, low roof will likely result in your hair grazing the headliner, and with the panoramic sunroof, you might even need to slouch or utilize the seatback's ample recline." -- Autoblog

Interior Features

The Blazer's infotainment system is both responsive and easy to use, and it has crisp graphics. Even the base version is nicely equipped with features such as advanced smartphone integration and a large touch screen. Professional reviewers also praise the uplevel system for its ability to recognize different users, adjusting the audio, climate, and lighting to their preferences.

Every Blazer comes with the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 interface, an 8-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Additional standard features include six speakers, four USB ports, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, a rearview camera, and a rear-seat reminder.

Optional interior upgrades include satellite radio, an eight-speaker Bose premium sound system, navigation, voice recognition, two additional USB ports, wireless charging for enabled smartphones, a Wi-Fi hot spot, an 8-inch driver information display, a 120-volt household-style power outlet, and ambient lighting.

Available safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection with automatic emergency braking, a following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, a rear camera mirror, automatic high beams, a safety alert seat, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, a surround-view camera system, and rear parking sensors.

  • "GM's latest infotainment system, called Infotainment 3, is chock full of connectivity features, responds quickly to inputs, and has clearly organized menus." -- Car and Driver
  • "Front and center in the dashboard is a standard, 8-inch Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system -- perhaps not the most cleverly named setup in the business, but still a well-designed one with lots of potential for future upgrades. From the smartphone-esque home screen to the smartly organized menu structure, Infotainment 3 is intuitive to navigate and, perhaps more importantly, responsive to my taps and swipes. A new shortcut bar along the bottom of the screen links back to the homescreen and various infotainment functions." -- CNET
  • "The infotainment and connected tech are the real stars here. A new 8-inch touchscreen is the main interface, and it provides crisp graphics. You also get a high-resolution rearview camera with multiple angles, four USB ports, onboard Wi-Fi, and iPhone and Android smartphone integration. An upgraded system… includes navigation, Bluetooth audio streaming for two devices, and the ability to save user profiles for different drivers. Each driver in the family can save various audio and climate control preferences and even smaller details like duration of entry and exit lighting. It's a nice touch that allows some of the personalization we've come to expect in the personal device era." -- Edmunds

Cargo

There isn't a lot of cargo space in the Blazer for a midsize SUV. It has 30.5 cubic feet behind the second row, and up to 64.2 cubic feet with rear seats folded down. On the plus side, the second-row seats fold flat. There's also an available cargo management system that helps keep smaller items separate and contained while you're on the road. A power liftgate and a hands-free liftgate are optional.

  • "There's 30.3 cubic feet with the seats raised and 64.2 when they are lowered completely flat thanks to a cleverly engineered seat bottom … By contrast, the biggest compact models like the CR-V and Forester are in the mid 30s and 70s, respectively." -- Autoblog
  • "Other options include … a cargo management system with floor rails and a cargo fence. The latter may sound like something you won't need. But consider that the Blazer offers just 64.2 cubic feet of space with its 60/40-split folding seats down and a little less than half that in the upright position. Even with just a couple of bags and photo gear, the cargo hold came in pretty handy on our drive." -- Edmunds
  • Cargo space isn't class leading, but the Blazer's trunk still offers plenty of room for a week-long getaway." -- Left Lane News
