2009 Chevrolet Aveo Overview

The 2009 Chevrolet Aveo is far from fancy, but with good fuel economy and enough power from its engine for getting around town, reviewers said the Aveo is decent basic transportation and nothing more. The 2009 Chevrolet Aveo has poor safety ratings.

The Aveo comes as a sedan or a hatchback (Aveo5). Both models have a lot of cargo space for their sizes, but if you need the most room, choose the hatchback. Test drivers said that the front seats offer plenty of headroom, but legroom is more cramped. The second row has pretty good space for the class, but in the sedan, some passengers may want more headroom.

The Aveo was one of the least expensive models in the class when it was new, so standard features are few. The base model has a radio but lacks air conditioning. Higher trims offer AC, as well as cruise control, power accessories, audio controls for the steering wheel and satellite radio. The base Aveo has front and side airbags, but you’ll need to go for a higher trim to get a tire pressure monitoring system and anti-lock brakes.

Other Cars to Consider

The 2009 Ford Focus stands out with impressive available cabin technology for its segment, like the voice-activated Sync infotainment system. The Focus also has better safety ratings. The Focus has a more powerful engine, but while the Focus has good fuel economy, the Aveo gets more miles per gallon.

The 2009 Toyota Yaris is also a small car that’s available as a sedan and hatchback, but has much better safety scores than the Aveo. Like the Aveo, the Yaris’ list of standard features is sparse, but it does come with air conditioning and anti-lock brakes. The Yaris has combined fuel economy ratings that are slightly better than the Aveo’s.
