2011 Chevrolet Avalanche Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche was new.

Interior: 7.6

Though the Avalanche’s interior isn’t as luxurious as the Escalade EXT’s, reviewers feel that it’s nice for its price. Fit and finish is good, though some reviewers think it’s a little cheap, and the rear seat is comfortable and roomy enough for three adults. Even the base model of the Avalanche comes with more standard features than the base models of other pickup trucks, and reviewers write that its gauges and electronics are intuitive and easy to use. The innovative folding midgate adds even more cargo room, extending the bed space into the rear section of the cabin.

  • "Inside, however, the Avalanche is all Suburban with an upscale dashboard and plenty of available luxury conveniences.” -- Left Lane News
  • "Avalanche's cabin is trimmed mostly with hard plastic, but many surfaces are textured, lending an upscale appearance.” -- Consumer Guide
  • "Generally, reviewers are favorably impressed with the 2011 Avalanche’s well appointed cabin, noting gauges to be easily readable, and controls to be well-located and simple to use. An abundance of hard plastics dominates the cabin, but, according to most reviewers, some subtle and effective texturing offsets any potential low-rent look.” -- Car Gurus

With its standard front bench seat, the Avalanche can seat up to six in relative comfort, reviewers say. Writers agree that the bench seats can be firm but supportive, and that the rear seat has space for three adults to fit comfortably. Opting for front bucket seats takes the seating capacity down to five, but reviewers say the bucket seats are spacious and comfy.

  • "The front seats are comfy and supportive.” -- Cars.com
  • "The rear seat folds flat, rear-seat occupants enjoy generous shoulder space and three fit easily, though the center position is a bit snug. Seatbacks are somewhat firm, but deliver above-average comfort.” -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Seats are claimed by the majority of reviewers to be comfortable and supportive, though this pickup’s high stance can prove a minor challenge to shorter folks in reaching them. Most reviewers note that the overly large roof pillars put rearward visibility at a premium." -- Car Gurus
  • “Note that folding the rear seats to extend the cargo bed requires pushing the front seats forward several inches, compromising legroom for taller occupants.” -- Consumer Guide

Interior Features

Reviewers are happy with the number of features that come standard even on the base model of the Avalanche. Buyers will get an AM/FM/CD/MP3 player with auxiliary input jack, Bluetooth connectivity, a leather wrapped steering wheel, rear seat audio controls, and cruise control. Opting for the premium LTZ trim can equip the Avalanche in style, adding standard navigation, leather seats, heated front seats, rear parking assist and adjustable pedals.

Reviewers find that the interior controls are easy to use and well laid out, and are especially pleased with the intuitiveness of the navigation system.

  • "Gauges are large and easy to read. The climate controls are mounted slightly low but are no trouble to reach. The optional navigation system absorbs, but doesn't complicate, audio functions." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Gauges are easy to read at a glance.” -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Overall, the interior is spacious, with generous storage in the center console.” -- Cars.com

Reviewers love the amount of cargo space in the Avalanche and the number of clever storage features inside the cabin. The truck’s “midgate” can fold down or be removed in order to create a cargo area that stretches from the tailgate through the cab of the truck. With the midgate closed and the rear seats folded, the Avalanche offers 45.5 cubic feet of interior cargo space. The Avalanche also features a 60/40-split folding rear bench seat and rear doors that open to a full 90 degrees, making it easier to load cargo and enter and exit the back seat.  Reviewers also say that the Avalanche offers plenty of interior cargo storage compartments for small items.

  • "Avalanche's versatile cargo bed has locking storage compartments on its outside, plus washable plastic walls and a rubber floormat. The hard tonneau and locking tailgate make it essentially a deep, 40-cubic-foot trunk.” -- Consumer Guide
