A Complete History of the Corvette

Chevrolet has called the Corvette “America’s only true production sports car.” Granted, this is open to dispute, but it is going to be hard, perhaps even impossible, to find another domestic sports car that has lasted as long, been desired by so many, or delivered as much performance per dollar. Its history spans more than six decades – and the end is nowhere in sight.

There have been seven generations of the Chevrolet Corvette. The first “C1” Corvette was one of the show cars in GM’s 1953 Motorama. It generated so much interest that General Motors decided to produce the vehicle. Production started on June 30, 1953. Only 300 hand assembled cars were built in the first year.
