2018 Cadillac XTS Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 8.0

With its elegant styling and first-rate materials, the 2018 Cadillac XTS rivals some of the best interiors in the class. The seats are spacious and supportive, and the trunk is larger than most rivals’. There are plenty of standard and available features, including driver assistance technology.

  • "The interior is nicely assembled with few gaps and soft-touch materials throughout the cabin. It's possibly GM's best effort to date and comparable to some of the finest interiors in this category." -- Consumer Reports
  • "Step inside the Cadillac XTS for 2016 and you will see a rich, impeccably assembled cabin. Comfortable, leather-trimmed seats are standard, and top-line models get leather-wrapped interior panels." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)
  • "It serves up a comfortable ride, standard features galore and plenty of passenger space. Granted, the XTS may seem a bit ordinary compared to true flagship models from Europe, Japan and even Korea. But with its striking looks and supreme comfort levels, there's little question that this Cadillac is determined to earn your attention." -- Edmunds (2015)

Seating

The XTS seats five and comes standard with leather upholstery and a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel. Available features include 22-way power-adjustable front seats, massaging front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, driver memory settings, a rear-seat armrest with audio controls, and leather-wrapped interior accents.

Both rows of seats are spacious and provide plenty of legroom for adult passengers. Tall people won’t bump their heads, either, thanks to a generous amount of headroom. The seats are also comfortable, and they have enough support to keep you feeling good on long drives.

There are two full sets of LATCH connectors in the rear seats. The tether anchors are easy to find and identify. The lower anchors don’t require a lot of force when attaching car-seat straps, but they are set deep in the seat.

  • "One of the XTS's best attributes is its spacious, 5-passenger cabin. There is generous legroom in the front and back, and it's easy to get comfortable in the standard leather seats. … New foam in the front seats improves comfort while resisting fatigue, and the power-adjustable leather-wrapped steering wheel and easy-to-grab shift lever feel terrific." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The Cadillac XTS provides the kind of passenger volume you expect from a nearly 17-foot-long luxury sedan. Rear passengers in particular will appreciate their ample accommodations." -- Edmunds (2017)
  • "Rear seat passengers get about four inches more legroom than in most other four-doors in this price bracket." -- Left Lane News (2016)

Interior Features

Standard features in the Cadillac XTS include a Wi-Fi hot spot, push-button start, Bluetooth, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, satellite radio, automatic dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, a rearview camera, rear park assist, Teen Driver, and the CUE infotainment system with an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and two USB ports.

Available features include a sunroof, tri-zone automatic climate control, navigation, a 14-speaker Bose audio system, a safety alert seat, lane keep assist, automatic park assist, front parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, a surround-view camera, a head-up display, lane departure warning, lane change alert, forward collision alert, and forward and reverse automatic braking.

The XTS’ dashboard looks great and is smartly arranged. The CUE infotainment system features a responsive touch screen (with improved speed for 2018), but some of the controls beneath it can be tough to use. There are also a lot of menu options for the reconfigurable digital instrument cluster, which might overwhelm some users.

  • "All instruments are digital, with bright, crisp graphics. Our tested vehicle and higher trim-levels have a reconfigurable gauge cluster that offers a wide variety of display options. However, toggling through all of these options can be overwhelming." -- Consumer Reports
  • "However, we're not so hot on the touch-based audio, information and climate-command system that can be finicky for your fingers to operate." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The XTS' futuristic dashboard, though, is something else altogether. For 2017 the standard gauge cluster gets a face-lift, but it's the optional 12.3-inch gauge cluster that gets our attention. Then there's the CUE (Cadillac User Experience) infotainment interface. … Cadillac has improved CUE's response time significantly from when it was initially introduced, and the current system is finally something we'd call user-friendly. Those familiar with smartphone and tablet interfaces should feel at home with the CUE touchscreen because it uses similar touch, swipe and pinch gesture commands." -- Edmunds (2017)

Cargo

The XTS has one of the largest cargo spaces in its class, with 18 cubic feet of trunk space. The trunk isn’t that wide, however, which can make it tough to fit larger items. Split-folding rear seats are standard, giving you some extra space if you need it, and there’s a lot of small-item storage throughout the cabin.

  • "The large trunk is nicely finished and holds four large suitcases and a duffel bag. It can be expanded by folding the 60/40-split seatbacks. There is a small storage bin under the cargo floor." -- Consumer Reports
  • "With 18 cubic feet of capacity, the XTS' trunk is one of the biggest on the market, but it's unusually narrow, so long items such as golf bags might need to be creatively positioned." -- Edmunds (2017)
  • "The 3-passenger rear seat offers good legroom, and a massive, 18-cubic-foot trunk can swallow five or more suitcases." -- Kelley Blue Book (2015)
