2017 Cadillac XTS Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2017 Cadillac XTS was new.

Scorecard

Interior: 7.8

The 2017 Cadillac XTS has an upscale and spacious interior with high-tech features and high-quality materials. Its rear-seat offers some of the most legroom in its class, and its leather-trimmed seats and available leather-wrapped panels add style to an already decadent interior. Its infotainment system has been improved for the 2017 model year, but its touch-sensitive climate and audio controls can be a bit distracting to use while driving and tend to pale in comparison to the competition.

  • "Step inside the Cadillac XTS for 2016 and you will see a rich, impeccably assembled cabin. Comfortable, leather-trimmed seats are standard, and top-line models get leather-wrapped interior panels." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)
  • "It serves up a comfortable ride, standard features galore and plenty of passenger space. Granted, the XTS may seem a bit ordinary compared to true flagship models from Europe, Japan and even Korea. But with its striking looks and supreme comfort levels, there's little question that this Cadillac is determined to earn your attention." -- Edmunds (2015)
  • "The cabin is quiet and posh with an ultra-modern digital cluster. Our tester was handsomely decked out in black and cream and set off by light pipes, which cast a soft glow in the evenings on the doors and dash." -- Automobile Magazine (2014)

Seating

The 2017 Cadillac XTS seats five and comes standard with leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, and 60/40 split-folding rear seats. Available features include a 22-way power-adjustable driver's seat with massage feature, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, driver memory settings, a rear-seat armrest with audio controls, and leather-wrapped interior accents.

The Cadillac has comfortable seating with high-quality leather upholstery. There is plenty of head- and legroom in both the front and back seats.

  • "The Cadillac XTS provides the kind of passenger volume you expect from a nearly 17-foot-long luxury sedan. Rear passengers in particular will appreciate their ample accommodations." -- Edmunds
  • "Comfortable, leather-trimmed seats are standard, and top-line models get leather-wrapped interior panels. The 3-passenger rear seat offers good legroom, and a massive, 18-cubic-foot trunk can swallow five or more suitcases." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)
  • "Rear seat passengers get about four inches more legroom than in most other four-doors in this price bracket." -- Left Lane News (2016)

Interior Features

The 2017 Cadillac XTS comes with a generous list of standard features. These include a Wi-Fi hot spot, push-button start, Bluetooth, an eight-speaker sound system, an 8-inch touch screen, automatic dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, rear park assist, and adaptive remote start. The Cadillac User Experience (CUE) infotainment system is also standard and includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, two USB ports, voice recognition, and a Teen Driver system.

Available features include a sunroof, tri-zone automatic climate control, lane keep assist, automatic park assist, a 14-speaker Bose sound system, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, a multi-angle camera, a head-up display, lane departure warning, forward collision alert, and a rear-seat armrest with audio controls.

The CUE system's 8-inch touch screen is responsive and easier to use than past models. It has impressive smartphone integration capabilities and responds to smartphonelike gestures like swiping and pinching. Below the touch screen are touch-sensitive buttons (instead of traditional knobs and buttons) that control climate and stereo systems. These can be challenging to use while driving.

  • "The XTS' futuristic dashboard, though, is something else altogether. For 2017 the standard gauge cluster gets a face-lift, but it's the optional 12.3-inch gauge cluster that gets our attention. Then there's the CUE (Cadillac User Experience) infotainment interface, which integrates audio, phone, optional navigation and OnStar functionality into an 8-inch haptic touchscreen display. Cadillac has improved CUE's response time significantly from when it was initially introduced, and the current system is finally something we'd call user-friendly. Those familiar with smartphone and tablet interfaces should feel at home with the CUE touchscreen because it uses similar touch, swipe and pinch gesture commands." -- Edmunds
  • "But not all is perfect inside the XTS. While the standard 8-inch touch-screen center controller is visually appealing and offers haptic feedback (in which the screen feels like it's touching you back), the standard CUE system is unintuitive. It requires a steep learning curve to operate what should be simple functions like audio and climate settings." -- Kelley Blue Book (2016)
  • "The dashboard features a clean and modern look, while the materials are on par with the best the segment has to offer." -- Left Lane News (2016)

Cargo

The 2017 Cadillac XTS has one of the largest cargo spaces in its class, with 18 cubic feet of trunk space. The trunk isn’t that wide, however, which can make it more difficult to fit larger items in. There are also plenty of nooks and crannies in the cabin for storage of smaller items.

  • "With 18 cubic feet of capacity, the XTS' trunk is one of the biggest on the market, but it's unusually narrow, so long items such as golf bags might need to be creatively positioned." -- Edmunds
  • "Inside, the XTS is quite spacious - though priced against the competition's mid-size sedans, the XTS is definitely a full-sizer. … trunk space checks in at a commodious 18 cubic feet." -- Left Lane News (2016)
  • "The 3-passenger rear seat offers good legroom, and a massive, 18-cubic-foot trunk can swallow five or more suitcases." -- Kelley Blue Book (2015)
