2019 Cadillac XT5 Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 8.0

The 2019 Cadillac XT5's cabin consists of lush, high-quality materials, including standard leatherette upholstery and wood accents. This luxury midsize SUV also has plenty of standard and available tech features and a decent amount of space throughout the interior.

  • Some interior design choices, for example, impede space and usability, but none are major shortcomings. Overall, we think the XT5's distinctive styling, roomy interior and cushy ride make it a compelling alternative to its more established European, Japanese and American rivals." -- Edmunds
  • "The Cadillac of today can now relax, something evident in the quietly luxurious design of the interior -- one that does not try to impress by overwhelming. The automaker focused on material quality in retrimming the cabin, offering real wood and aluminum trim elements throughout and focusing on driver and passenger comfort." -- Autoweek 2017)
  • "Inside, the XT5 delights with premium leather and real wood, aluminum, and carbon-fiber trim. No faux stuff here. The dash and doors are covered in stitched materials rather than molded surfaces, the ‘cut and sewn’ theme prominent throughout." -- Motor Trend (2017)

Seating

There's seating for five in the 2-row XT5. The seats are supportive and well-cushioned, but the front row has a high center armrest that impedes elbow room, and outward visibility could be better. The panoramic sunroof found in many models hinder rear-seat headroom.

Leatherette upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and power-adjustable front seats are standard. Available features include leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear-outboard seats, and a heated steering wheel. There are two sets of LATCH car-seat connectors on the rear outer seats and an upper tether on the rear middle seat.

  • "The cabin of Cadillac's XT5 is quiet and elegant. The quality of the materials -- including carbon fiber, aluminum and real open-pore wood -- and the fit and finish are excellent. That, plus the roomy, sliding second row and tasteful color schemes ensure the interior holds its own against the competition." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • The front seats offer good head- and legroom, but the cabin feels confined at the elbows due to the high center armrest. There's a good amount of rear legroom, but headroom is tight for 6-footers in the XT5 equipped with the panoramic sunroof (which is most of them)." -- Edmunds
  • The good news is that the driver ergonomics are excellent and seats are comfortable. That's worth reiterating; the seat shape felt just a little optimized for people on the slim side but the cushioning was in a nice Goldilocks zone between soft and taut." -- Jalopnik (2017)

Interior Features

A CUE infotainment system comes standard in the XT5 and includes an 8-inch touch screen, voice recognition, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hot spot, HD Radio, Bluetooth, four USB ports, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, and satellite radio. The infotainment system itself is decent, but it features a touch-sensitive volume slider that many find frustrating to use. Other standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, a rearview camera, and rear park assist.

Available features include navigation, a 14-speaker Bose premium surround-sound system, wireless charging, tri-zone automatic climate control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, a safety alert seat, a head-up display, a rear-camera mirror, a surround-vision camera, adaptive cruise control, forward and reverse automatic braking, automatic seat belt tightening, and active park assist.

  • The infotainment system response time is better than before, which makes the logical touchscreen menus flow smoother. But the screen appears small due to all the virtual buttons in the margins. The touch-sensitive volume slider seems like a styling gimmick." -- Edmunds
  • "Setting it apart are its standard Apple CarPlay, its excellent infotainment system, a color head-up display and the terrific gotta-try-it-to-appreciate-it Rear Camera Mirror." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Cadillac's CUE infotainment system, with its slider volume knob and propensity for disobedience, continues to be be [sic] a source of frustration." -- Left Lane News (2017)

Cargo

There's 30 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, which also slide, recline and fold flat for additional space. With the second row folded, there's 63 cubic feet of space. This is about average in the class. The standard XT5 comes with a power liftgate, and a hands-free power liftgate is available.

  • The cargo floor is flat, but the liftover height is higher than that of some competitors. The rear seatbacks fold completely flat via remote levers just inside the hatch, expanding the standard 30 cubic feet of cargo space to 63 cubic feet. The hatch's opening height is programmable." -- Edmunds
  • "The split-rear seat also folds flat for hauling larger items." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Second-row seats recline a few degrees and can slide fore and aft to maximize cargo space when needed." -- Autotrader (2017)
