2011 Cadillac SRX Overview

When it was new, reviewers liked the 2011 Cadillac SRX’s stylish, well-made cabin and smooth ride. But their enthusiasm was damped by a hefty curb weight that blunted the SRX’s handling, and an underpowered bas engine.

The base SRX is powered by a 265-horsepower V6 that most critics found wasn’t up to the task of propelling the vehicle. They recommended opting for the turbocharged V6 that puts out 300 horsepower, which they said is better at getting the SRX moving, even though it isn’t as fuel-efficient. A front-wheel drive SRX, which only comes with the base engine, achieves 18/25 mpg city/highway, which is fairly good for the class. However, an all-wheel drive variant with the turbocharged engine achieves just 15/22 mpg. The SRX comes with high safety scores like most of its competitors.

Inside, reviewers loved the SRX’s well-designed, high-quality interior. Most said the seats were comfortable, aside from gripes about the back seat feeling cramped, which is a common complaint among 2011 compact SUVs. The SRX has 61.2 cubic feet of cargo space, which is pretty good for the class. Standard equipment includes leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, a rearview camera, a Bose stereo and satellite radio. Available features in option packages or higher trim levels include Bluetooth, navigation, a rear-seat entertainment system and a power liftgate. The SRX has undergone few changes since 2010, so you may be able to save some money by shopping for an older model.

Other Cars to Consider

If you like the SRX, you may also like the 2011 Audi Q5. Critics said the Q5 is one of the best-rounded 2011 compact SUVs, with a fairly roomy interior, good handling and one of the best fuel economy scores in the class.

Another SUV to consider is the 2011 Infiniti EX. It may be one of the most impractical choices in the class, but it is the choice for performance enthusiasts. Reviewers said its powerful base engine makes it quick and that it handles like a sport sedan. Keep in mind that its cargo capacity is significantly less than that of the SRX, so it’s not the best choice for those who need more utility than sport.
