2007 Cadillac Escalade Overview

The 2007 Cadillac Escalade is generally viewed by the press as a swaggering, stylish SUV that offers a high level of luxury, good performance, and status. The Detroit Free Press calls it "the sexiest full-size SUV on the market," and adds that it is "an awesome Detroit offering that hits a bull's-eye in such important areas as horsepower and cabin design." The New York Times finds the redesigned 2007 model "rides on a stronger and stiffer chassis and affords added sophistication, comfort and performance." Referring to its extensive use of chrome, Motor Trend calls the Escalade the "king of bling," adding that it "borders on being overdone, yet doesn't overstep the boundary."

The Escalade was named Best New American Car by Forbes, and BusinessWeek ranks Cadillac as the best automotive company in customer service, awarding the company Customer Service Champion status. And while the reviewer at Cars.com says, "I can't think of another big SUV I'd recommend more than this one," Car and Driver disagrees, rating it fourth among five "Top-Rung Sport-Utes" in a comparison test drive. Based on their long-term road test, Car and Driver says, "Ultimately, it's going to be that social-climbing draw and its abilities as an upscale tow rig that keep the Escalade moving off Cadillac lots, because with its appetite for fuel and paltry interior space, it's not a vehicle anyone will buy as an engineering triumph."

The Cadillac Escalade beat out the Range Rover in a head-to-head comparison conducted by Motor Trend, who concluded that the Escalade is "quicker, roomier, better equipped, and cheaper."

Though the Cadillac Escalade isn't cheap, most reviewers agree that it offers a good value within its class. Edmunds notes that in the realm of full-size luxury SUVs, "the 2007 Cadillac Escalade excels. Like-priced competitors such as the Infiniti QX56 and Lincoln Navigator may edge it out in one area or another, but overall the Escalade is a superior vehicle." Consumer Guide gives the Escalade its "recommended" rating, while Edmunds says that "paying a lot more money for a Lexus LX 470 or Land Rover Range Rover is an exercise in diminishing returns. Unless you're an avid off-roader, these vehicles provide little if any worthwhile benefit over the Escalade." Despite these and other accolades, IntelliChoice only gives the base model Escalade a value rating of "average" for its predicted five-year cost of ownership compared to other vehicles in its class.

The Escalade can seat up to eight people and comes in three models: the Escalade, Escalade ESV (an extended version) and the Escalade EXT (which trades the third row seat and enclosed cargo area for a short truck bed).
