2013 Cadillac Escalade EXT Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2013 Cadillac Escalade EXT was new.

Interior: 7.4

The 2013 Cadillac Escalade EXT's interior garners reviewer praise for its high-quality, upscale appearance, comfortable seats and many standard features. Most reviewers say the Escalade EXT lives up to its luxury billing, but it is important to note that it is no longer the only luxurious choice among full-size pickups. One reviewer does notice some wind noise transmitted into the cabin around the mirrors and says that the open truck bed is also a source of some noise, although that’s to be expected from a pickup truck. The Escalade EXT also comes standard with a hard folding tonneau cover, which should help reduce noise coming from the bed.

  • "Though Escalade is a quiet vehicle in the grand scheme of SUVs, in the premium space it falls a bit short. The standard 6.2-liter V8 is subdued at highway speeds but produces a louder-than-expected roar during acceleration. We observed some wind noise, largely around the large exterior mirrors. The open bed of the EXT generates more overall ruckus than in the wagon versions." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Even the base 8-passenger SUV models and 5-passenger EXT variant are lavish beyond reason, with leather trim blanketing the seats, doors, steering wheel and center console, and with the interior pillars wearing rich-looking fabric." -- Kelley Blue Book (2012)
  • "The Escalade EXT sets itself apart from the other luxury-lined pickups with a genuinely upscale cabin in terms of design, materials and features." -- Edmunds (2012)

The Escalade EXT is a crew cab pickup truck with seating for up to five people. It comes standard with leather upholstery, as well as heated and cooled front seats. Reviewers say the front seats are spacious and comfortable, though one reviewer notes that headroom may be a bit limited for very tall drivers. They also like the back seats, saying there is plenty of room and comfort. Shoppers should note that the rear seats are unusable when the midgate is open. The Escalade EXT’s midgate is the barrier between the back of the cab and truck bed that can be folded down to expand the length of the cargo bed into the back of the cab.

  • "Escalades have big-rig space on wide, comfortable seats, though the tallest drivers may want more headroom and legroom. Folding the midgate on the EXT requires moving the front seats forward slightly, reducing legroom." -- Consumer Guide (2012)
  • "Both rows of seats offer good head- and legroom, with the front buckets' heating/cooling making it especially easy for occupants to get comfortable." -- Edmunds (2012)

Interior Features

Reviewers are generally impressed with all that the Escalade EXT is equipped with. It has a standard eight-speaker Bose stereo, navigation, a backup camera, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth and satellite radio. Upper trims offer features like a rear-seat entertainment system, blind-zone alert, a power sunroof and a heated steering wheel.

Most reviewers compliment the Escalade’s features their ease of use. They note that the navigation system works well and seems intuitive. A couple reviewers mention the absence of a telescoping steering column.

  • "The instrumentation takes a small step back from its non-premium siblings (Tahoe and Yukon), owing mainly to the 'Slade's blue needles that are hard to see in some lighting. GM's audio/climate/navigation integration is among the best in the business. Everything is easy to reach and simple to understand." -- Consumer Guide
  • "The controls for the heater/vent/AC system are rather small and low on the dash to be operated easily and safely by a driver on the move. (Fully automatic operation is, however, available.) While most controls were well marked, a couple were labeled with symbols that give little clue as to their purpose." -- Newsday (2007)
  • "The Points of Interest (POI) database was well stocked--over 50 restaurant categories were listed, for example--and easy to navigate because of the integration of one-touch scrolling, which enabled us to get through long menus without having to tap the screen repeatedly." -- CNET (2007)

The Cadillac Escalade EXT has a pickup bed, enabling it to carry more oddly-shaped cargo than you can with the conventional Escalade SUV. It also comes with a hard folding tonneau cover to keep the bed dry. Its collapsible midgate allows it to carry longer cargo than other trucks with short truck beds. Reviewers like the versatility of the midgate. They also remark that the cabin storage is good, and they like the large center console.

  • "Good cabin storage includes a large bi-level console bin." -- Consumer Guide
  • "You won't want to be hauling around loads of manure, of course, but large items that wouldn't normally fit suddenly will with the midgate lowered." -- Edmunds (2012)
