2011 Cadillac Escalade EXT Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2011 Cadillac Escalade EXT was new.

Interior: 8.2

The 2011 Cadillac Escalade EXT’s premium interior is worthy of its Cadillac name, and reviewers praise it for its level of luxury and refinement. But since it hasn’t been significantly overhauled since 2007, one writer says it’s starting to show its age. For 2011, Cadillac has improved the EXT’s noise-reducing laminated glass and added a new version of OnStar.

Currently, the Escalade EXT is the pickup with the most luxurious interior on the market, but the GMC Sierra 1500 Denali, Ford F-150 King Ranch and Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn’s high quality nip at the EXT’s heels. For true upscale cachet, though, you can’t beat the Cadillac Escalade EXT.

  • "Cadillac Escalade EXT's interior is luxury-plush, surprisingly quiet and raises the luxury and refinement bars another couple of notches." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • With "a leather- and wood-trimmed interior, a bevy of multimedia cabin features, and enough chrome to make you squint, the EXT declares its true comfort-focused mission." -- CNET
  • "The Escalade EXT's cabin treats its occupants to the experience expected of a Cadillac. Sumptuous stitched leather accented with wood and metal trim contributes to an upscale contemporary atmosphere, though some low-rent plastic trim makes it fall short of other luxury brands.”-- Edmunds
  • "Interior is beginning to show its age.” -- Car and Driver

The Cadillac Escalade EXT can seat up to five people with the midgate folded up. If you need to fold the midgate down to create more room in the bed, the seating capacity is reduced to two. Reviewers say the seats are generally comfortable in both the front and back. The Escalade EXT comes standard with leather seats that are heated, cooled and 10-way power adjustable up front.

  • "The EXT will carry five adults in the sort of leather-clad, wood-trimmed comfort you would expect from a Cadillac." -- Cars.com.
  • The Escalade EXT has "big-rig space on wide, comfortable seats, though [the] tallest drivers may want still more head, leg room." -- Consumer Guide
  • "You're meant to travel in the EXT, not just shuttle from job site to job site. That's why the seats are sufficiently bolstered to be supportive enough for long journeys, and they're available with both heating and cooling functions." -- Edmunds

Interior Features

Reviewers are impressed with the level of luxury that can be found in this faux-pickup truck, saying it lives up to Cadillac standards. The Escalade EXT comes standard with satellite radio, a navigation system, rearview camera, separate rear-seat audio controls and adjustable pedals, among others. Upgrading to the  Luxury Collection trim makes rear-seat entertainment available and adds a sunroof and heated steering wheel. The Premium Collection trim includes rear-seat entertainment standard, as well as power-retractable running boards.

  • "Sumptuous stitched leather accented with wood and metal trim contributes to an upscale contemporary atmosphere, though some low-rent plastic trim makes it fall short of other luxury brands. The EXT's gauges are easy to check at a glance, and its controls are straightforward and intuitive.” -- Edmunds
  • "We found the [navigation] interface easy to program, with the option to enter destinations by an address, a cross street, or a phone number." -- CNET

Reviewers don’t say much about the small-items storage available in the Cadillac Escalade EXT. However, they love the folding midgate that’s a trademark on the EXT and its corporate sibling, the Chevrolet Avalanche. Reviewers love how much the midgate extends the bed when it’s folded down. But, shoppers should take note that lowering the midgate also removes the back wall of the cabin.
