2009 Cadillac DTS Overview

The 2009 DTS has tons of interior space, and when it was new, critics said it was comfortable on long drives. They liked the DTS’ spacious rear seat, saying that it could easily accommodate three passengers. While reviewers felt that the DTS failed to match the interior quality you’d find in a rival Mercedes-Benz or Acura, its 18.8 cubic feet of trunk space is more than you’ll find in most rival luxury cars.

Inside, the base 2009 DTS comes standard with leather upholstery, power front seats, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth and an eight-speaker stereo. The DTS Platinum adds larger wheels and exterior accents, as well as an upgraded suspension system and navigation.

The DTS comes with a V8 engine, but unfortunately, it isn’t as powerful as other cars in the class. While reviewers appreciated its soft ride, they noted that the DTS’ cumbersome handling makes it an undesirable car for the driving enthusiast. The DTS also utilizes an outdated four-speed automatic transmission, which reviewers thought negatively affected the driving experience. At 15/23 mpg city/highway, the 2009 DTS also uses more fuel than a number of its rivals. The DTS' safety score is near the bottom of the class.

Other Cars to Consider

If you’re seeking impressive cabin technology and standard all-wheel drive, the 2009 Acura RL is worth considering. Additionally, the RL’s exceptional safety score makes it an excellent choice among used luxury sedans. While the RL may not be as spacious as the DTS, its well-rounded nature should make it a good used car for a number of shoppers.

The 2009 Volvo S80 earns a significantly better safety score than the DTS, and reviewers agreed that its interior was stylish and comfortable when the S80 was new. You won’t get as much interior space with the S80, but reviewers agreed that the S80 isn’t as ponderous to drive. The base S80 also gets better fuel economy than the DTS, while higher S80 trims offer more powerful engines and standard all-wheel drive.
