2012 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2012 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon was new.

Interior: 8.1

Most car reviewers like the design and utility in the 2012 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon, but a few complain about front-seat comfort, which is a rare complaint to hear in this class. Overall, however, reviewers like the features, materials and cargo space in the CTS Sport Wagon.

  • "Yet despite its performance and handling credentials, a Cadillac is still about luxury and comfort. To the first point, the CTS boasts one of the most stylish cabins in its class, with very nice materials to match. High-tech convenience and entertainment features abound, giving up nothing technologically to the guys across either pond. As for comfort, though, the ride is not very Cadillac-like with the sport-tuned suspension found on the CTS 3.6, and several of our editors have found the driver seat to be hard and oddly positioned." -- Edmunds
  • "Much like the CTS, the Sport Wagon boasts a well-thought-out interior. There's a function to the form and style." -- Detroit News

If there’s one common complaint about the inside of the CTS Sport Wagon, it’s the seating. Some reviewers say the front seats are too firm and that legroom is compromised. The rear seats get generally good reviews, however. It’s rare for the front seats to get worse reviews than the rear, but it’s important to keep in mind that not all reviewers found the front row uncomfortable.

  • "Unfortunately, the interior also comes with its fair share of flaws. Many find the driving position awkward because of slightly offset pedals, a low-mounted seat and compromised knee room due to the sweeping center stack. Overall comfort is also hampered by flat and stiff seatbacks. Overall interior room, however, is quite good and better than most competing models, but rear-seat access can be a bit tricky due to a low rear roof line. Outward visibility to the rear is poor." -- Edmunds
  • "Seats are roomy and supportive, though some testers complain that the cushions are too firm for ideal long-distance comfort. The rakish roof line hurts visibility, with thick rear pillars being a particular hindrance. The pillars are even thicker on the coupe and wagon, further pinching the view." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Can't fault cabin comfort, but the rear seat would be cozier with a little more knee room. Front and rear doors open very wide for easy entry/exit, but the wider the opening, the greater the reach to close the door once inside." -- Chicago Tribune

Interior Features

The 2012 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon has standard features that include Bluetooth, satellite radio and a seven-speaker Bose stereo. The 3.0 Luxury trim adds a rearview camera, remote start, heated eight-way power-adjustable front seats and leather upholstery.

Reviewers especially like how the optional navigation touch screen rises from the dash when it’s called for, and retracts most of the way when it’s not, leaving a small touchscreen for controlling audio functions. Most reviewers also like the design and compliment Cadillac for the upscale materials in the CTS Sport Wagon.

  • "Major gauges are large and easy to read. Some testers believe CTS puts form over function when it comes to the use of major controls. The V-shape center console stack puts most buttons into a small area of the dashboard. The buttons are high set and easily seen, though. The navigation screen is large, easily legible, and quickly powers up or down. It absorbs some audio controls, and the navigation system itself is not the easiest to program." -- Consumer Guide
  • "Inside, the 2012 Cadillac CTS Wagon features a pleasing angular theme to match its exterior edginess. Soft-touch materials are plentiful, accented by tasteful wood trim. The optional navigation system emerges from the top of the dash and retracts almost fully, leaving a small section visible as a touchscreen display for the audio system -- an ingenious and elegant alternative solution to having a separate control panel." -- Edmunds
  • "There are the hand-cut and sewn accents with French stitching, the distinct clean instrument gauges and optional pop-up screen that controls the navigation system and Bose stereo. Even when the screen is pushed down so its top is flush with the dash, it displays an abbreviated version of the screen, so you can follow the music playing through your iPhone, conveniently stowed in the center console." -- Detroit News

The CTS Sport Wagon provides 58 cubic feet of cargo room with the rear seats folded, which is a bit low for the class. When the rear seats are in use, 25 cubic feet of storage space is available. Critics report that handy features like a cargo organization system and a power liftgate help make the space in the Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon more useful.

  • "Cargo capacity is obviously important with a wagon, and the CTS provides a generous 25 cubic feet with the rear seats raised and 58 cubic feet with them lowered. This is more than the Audi A4 Avant, but a little less than the BMW 3 Series wagon." -- Edmunds
  • "Wagons are versatile, as one would expect. Their under-floor storage is large and convenient, but you forfeit a spare tire in favor of a can of sealant. Interior storage includes a center console and glovebox that aren't that large." -- Consumer Guide
  • "In the rear, the cargo space is gargantuan and ready to swallow everything you can throw at it, including the kitchen sink. Just in case that's not enough space for you, there's more hiding under the cargo floor. Still need more (good golly, maybe you should just buy a pickup truck)? The rear seats split and fold for even more cargo room." -- Mother Proof
  • "The cargo hold is wide and deep. Rear seatbacks fold flat if more room is needed. The premium edition comes with stowage under the cargo floor, a divider on the floor and rails in the floor with tie-down hooks, plus a pullout shade to hide contents and a pet guard net between cabin and cargo hold. Neat touches, if you don't mind they're in a wagon." -- Chicago Tribune
