2019 Cadillac ATS Interior Review

Interior: 5.8

The 2019 Cadillac ATS has a nice interior but most critics think that it’s not as luxurious as it should be. The front seats are suitable for adults, but there’s little room in the second row. Cargo space is also low for the class. Some infotainment controls are hard to use since they're touch only.

  • "Despite recent advances, the Cadillac ATS still lacks the solid quality feel found in its BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi peers. It would help if the hard plastic interior materials, shift paddles that feel like plasticware, lame gauges and slippery steering wheel were upgraded." -- Edmunds
  • "Whether sedan or coupe, the … Cadillac ATS has a sophisticated, well-appointed interior. Leather seating is standard in most models, while base trims use faux Leatherette. Available wood or carbon-fiber trim also makes the ATS look and feel like a luxury car." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "The interior was a little sparse. I liked it, but it didn't really seem up the level of what the average Cadillac buyer would want. The materials didn't feel as soft as I think a Cadillac's surfaces should. The dash seemed a little hard and plasticky, at least to me, and the seats were neither comfortable nor racy enough for me to overlook it." -- Autoweek (2016)

The Cadillac ATS coupe seats four people on standard leatherette upholstery with eight-way power-adjustable front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Optional features include leather upholstery, premium semi-aniline leather, a 14-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a 12-way power-adjustable passenger seat, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. The ATS has two complete sets of LATCH attachments for installing car seats for children.

The front seats are comfortable and supportive, and there’s decent room for both the driver and passenger. However, the back seats feel cramped, and outward visibility is poor.

  • Much like competitive two-door coupes, the ATS cannot be considered roomy. The interior dimensions are sporty-snug for all passengers. Up front you'll be rubbing elbows. Still, there's room enough for a 6-footer to fit with minimal compromise. The back seats are best for kids and people you don't like." -- Edmunds
  • "We're not so impressed with the small rear seat." -- Consumer Guide (2018)
  • "Front-seat legroom is adult-sized, but headroom can get cramped with the sunroof. Rear-seat legroom is tight in the 4-passenger coupe. … Rear visibility in the coupe is compromised from the sloping roof." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2019 Cadillac ATS include dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity key entry, push-button start, remote start, a rearview camera, and the Teen Driver system. The standard 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system includes Bluetooth, three USB ports, voice recognition, a 12-speaker Bose surround-sound stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, wireless device charging, and a built-in Wi-Fi hot spot.

Optional features include navigation, a sunroof, a 110-volt power outlet, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Optional safety features include a safety alert seat, automatic seat belt tightening, adaptive headlights, a head-up display, automatic high beams, front and rear parking sensors, a following distance indicator, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, and forward and reverse automatic emergency braking.

The touch-screen system is generally easy to operate, with sharp graphics and an attractive appearance. However, some commands can be hard to perform when driving.

  • "The CUE infotainment system responds quickly and returns haptic vibration to confirm each finger stroke. Despite its age, the design still looks sleek and progressive. Functionally, however, the need to look away from the road to distinguish between one soft-touch slider and the next is problematic." -- Edmunds
  • The available CUE touch-screen system looks sleek, but some of its hard-touch controls can be finicky to operate, especially when moving." -- Kelley Blue Book (2018)
  • "The … Cadillac ATS has a new generation of Cadillac's Cue operating system that is said to be more intuitive." -- Consumer Guide (2018)

The Cadillac ATS has 10.4 cubic feet of trunk space, which is below average for the class. A power-release trunk is standard. The lift-in height is high, and the trunk is oddly shaped because of the rear wheel wells.

  • "Trunk space is smaller than average, with only 10.4 cubic feet of capacity and an awkward shape. Trunk liftover height is on the high side, and the broad rear wheelwells pinch the space. There is an average-size pass-through when the rear seatbacks are folded down." -- Edmunds
