2015 Cadillac ATS Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2015 Cadillac ATS was new.

Interior: 7.3

The 2015 Cadillac ATS has a sleek interior design and plenty of upscale materials, especially in the higher trims, critics say. However, they complain that the rear seats are cramped in both the sedan and coupe, and many think the infotainment system would be easier to use if it had traditional controls instead of touch-sensitive buttons. The ATS also has one of the smallest trunks in the class.

  • "Inside, the ATS emulates the CTS with a similarly sharp-edged design and extensive use of premium materials, including stitched surfaces on the dashboard and doors." -- Left Lane News
  • "Whether in sedan or coupe form, the 2015 ATS has a sophisticated, well-appointed interior." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Once settled in, all passengers will find themselves in an elegant, glitzy space of the sort that only Cadillac can pull off. The mix of materials on the cut-and-sew dash and door panels is impressive, with genuine aluminum, carbon fiber and glossy or open-pore woods making appearances on the various trim levels." -- Autoblog (coupe)
  • "Inside, the ATS coupe is impressively put together and the materials are mostly good to look at and touch. Particularly so for the $1,295 semi-aniline leather upholstery and high-line trim packages, where the wood accents spectacularly represent genuine wood, mostly because they are." -- Edmunds (coupe)

The 2015 Cadillac ATS sedan seats five, while the all-new coupe seats four. Standard features include leatherette upholstery and power-adjustable front seats. Available features include leather upholstery, heated front seats and a steering wheel that is heated and power-adjustable. Most reviewers think the 2015 Cadillac ATS sedan’s front seats have adequate space. However, many point out that the back seat is small for the class, adding that taller passengers will feel cramped. As with most two-door cars, automotive journalists say the new 2015 Cadillac ATS coupe has roomy front seats but very tight rear seats. Critics also write that the ATS coupe has more road noise than its competitors.

  • "Front-seat legroom is adult-sized, but headroom can get cramped with the sunroof. Rear-seat legroom is tight in the 5-passenger sedan, and feels even more so in the 4-passenger coupe." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "A short freeway stint, however, revealed plenty of road noise." -- Automobile Magazine (coupe)
  • "Compared to most other entry-level luxury sedans, the ATS's backseat is smaller than the norm. It's not necessarily a deal breaker depending on what your priorities are, but know that taller adults will find headroom, shoulder room and hiproom in short supply." -- Edmunds (2014 sedan)

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2015 Cadillac ATS include Bluetooth phone connectivity, two USB ports, push-button start, proximity key, a seven-speaker Bose audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control and satellite radio. A new version of the subscription-based OnStar system is also standard, and it includes 4G LTE data service and a built-in Wi-Fi hot spot (subscription required after three-month trial). Available features include a sunroof, a rearview camera, navigation, Bluetooth music streaming, a wireless phone charger, HD Radio, a 10-speaker Bose audio system, a head-up display, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, active lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pre-collision braking, front and rear parking sensors and Cadillac's CUE infotainment system, which includes an 8-inch touch screen and touch-sensitive buttons that vibrate when you press them.

Reviewers complain that CUE’s touch-sensitive buttons respond slowly to inputs, and many think traditional buttons and knobs would be easier to use. Critics also note that the CUE system’s dark, shiny surfaces pick up fingerprints easily. However, test drivers praise its wide variety of functions, intuitive voice command interface and helpful navigation system.

  • It's a great idea in theory, but CUE can be slow to respond (and occasionally fail to respond to your touch at all) and some features, such as the slide bar for volume adjustment, can be much more troublesome to input fine adjustments than conventional controls. On the upside, the ATS has a robust voice recognition interface, so if you get tired of fiddling with CUE's fussy touchscreen, initiating the commands by voice is fairly painless." -- Edmunds
  • Cadillac's CUE touch-sensitive infotainment system continues in its bittersweet state of looking high-tech and appealing but being frustrating to operate at times with its touch-sensitive controls that can be too sensitive and not all that intuitive. On the bright side, we applaud the available navigation system, which not only saved us from taking a very ‘scenic route’ back to our hotel, but operated quickly and flawlessly." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • Constant improvements to Cadillac's CUE infotainment system still haven't completely exorcised its slow response times and infuriating propensity to collect fingerprints - would someone please tell Cadillac designers that piano black is not an acceptable material for touch points? - but it contains an incredible amount of functionality once you learn it all." -- Autoblog

The 2015 Cadillac ATS sedan and ATS coupe each have 10.4 cubic feet of trunk space, which is small for the class. Split-folding rear seats, which can help expand the cargo area, are optional. Most reviewers are disappointed with the ATS’ paltry trunk capacity.

  • "The trunk is similarly confining at just 10.4 cubic feet of capacity." -- Edmunds (coupe)
