2015 Buick Regal Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2015 Buick Regal was new.

Interior: 7.2

Auto writers say the 2015 Buick Regal’s interior features top-notch materials and attractive styling. They like the Regal’s straightforward controls and supportive front seats, especially in the Regal GS. However, some complain that the Regal’s sloping roofline limits rear-seat headroom and compromises rearward visibility.

  • "The design and materials are all first-rate, and we especially like the easily readable instruments, the available user-friendly navigation system, and the steering-wheel-mounted thumb wheel for scrolling through function menus." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Inside, the Regal possesses a well-organized dashboard along with a generally high level of material quality, and goodies like leather upholstery, heated front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control." -- Left Lane News
  • "Anyone who says GM isn't capable of crafting a really nice interior has clearly never sat inside a Regal." -- Autoblog (2012 Regal GS)
  • "You can see how hard GM is trying the instant you get behind the wheel. The layout is tidy, and could be from any one of several European manufacturers. Flowing organic shapes and soft-touch moldings surround you, and the instruments are big, unambiguous dials with a clear information panel between them." -- Popular Mechanics (2011)

The 2015 Buick Regal seats five and comes standard with leather upholstery, heated front seats and a 12-way power-adjustable driver seat. Available features include a power-adjustable passenger seat and a heated steering wheel. GS models come with sport seats. Automotive journalists agree that the Buick Regal’s front seats are very comfortable and supportive, especially in the GS model. However, they write that the Regal’s sloping roofline impinges on rearward visibility and rear-seat headroom.

  • "The downside is the Regal's rear-seat headroom, with the sleek roofline meaning passengers more than 6-feet tall will likely rub against the headliner." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "Despite its small exterior dimensions, Regal enjoys expansive front legroom. Headroom is quite good as well, even beneath the sunroof housing. The seats are comfortable and supportive, particularly the sport buckets on the GS." -- Consumer Guide (2013)
  • "Front seats offer good support in both spirited driving and more casual cruising. Rear seats aren't as comfortable, however, and the sloping roof line means both less headroom for tall passengers and reduced visibility out the back for some drivers." -- Edmunds (2013)
  • "After a few hours of butt-in-seat drive time, we're nonetheless pleased with the thrones being offered to us oversized 'Muricans. They're comfortable and offer ample amounts of bolstering for both our love handles and thunder thighs." -- Autoblog (2012 Regal GS)

Interior Features

Standard features in the 2015 Buick Regal include Bluetooth, a rearview camera, dual-zone automatic climate control, a seven-speaker sound system, a USB port, satellite radio, smartphone app integration and Buick’s IntelliLink infotainment system, which features an 8-inch touch-screen display. A new version of the subscription-based OnStar telematics system is also standard, which includes 4G LTE high-speed cellular data service and a built-in Wi-Fi hot spot. Available features include a sunroof, a Bose premium sound system, navigation, push-button start, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning and forward collision alert.

Reviewers note that the Regal’s IntelliLink infotainment system allows you to change settings by swiping through icons, just like a smartphone or tablet, and they like its voice recognition software, which responds to an impressive variety of spoken commands. Last year, Buick reduced the number of buttons on the Regal’s dashboard by more than half, and test drivers say it is easy to locate major audio and climate controls.

  • "The [IntelliLink] setup lets users flick, swipe and drag through icons and lists in the manner of a tablet or smartphone, and it features a voice recognition system for hands-free calls, destination entering, song selection and more. Its ‘natural language’ functioning can recognize a staggering number of phrases - effectively eliminating the need for the clunky and cumbersome memorized commands." -- Left Lane News
  • "The dashboard button count goes down from 17 last year to 7. This isn't always progress, but the major controls you want in a hurry are easily found." -- Car and Driver (2014)

The base 2015 Buick Regal has 14.2 cubic feet of trunk space, which is above average for the class. However, reviewers note that the trunk’s hinges and narrow width reduce usable space. The Regal eAssist’s battery takes up some trunk space, reducing cargo capacity to 11.1 cubic feet. While the Regal has standard split-folding rear seats, automotive journalists report that the Regal eAssist’s battery blocks the opening on the passenger side.

  • "The trunk has sickle-shaped hinges that intrude slightly on overall space, but they're covered so they don't crush cargo." -- Consumer Guide (2013)
  • "Out back, the battery pack for the eAssist powertrain cuts usable trunk space down to a mere 11.1 cubic feet. Turbo and GS models are better at 14.2 cubic feet, though the trunk's narrow width means bulky cargo like golf clubs are going to be a tight fit." -- Edmunds (2013)
  • "The lithium-ion battery pack sits behind the rear seat, cutting trunk volume, as the case is in many hybrid sedans. Folding rear seats are standard, but the battery pack blocks the passenger-side opening." -- Cars.com (2012 Regal eAssist)
