2016 Buick LaCrosse Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2016 Buick LaCrosse was new.

Interior: 8.4

Test drivers say the 2016 Buick LaCrosse's interior has high-end materials and roomy seats for all occupants. The LaCrosse's cabin is also very quiet, critics report, even on the highway. Auto writers love the LaCrosse's easy-to-use infotainment system, praising its clear graphics and simple iPhone integration. However, reviewers are disappointed with the LaCrosse's poor trunk space.

  • "Materials quality is fully competitive for the price." -- Edmunds
  • "The interior, already one of GM's strongest recent efforts, now features upgraded materials, more comfortable seats and the new-generation IntelliLink infotainment system." -- Left Lane News (2015)
  • "Last year, the Buick LaCrosse was on the receiving end of a host of updates improving the appearance and function of the interior. Thankfully, nothing has changed here, and the 2015 Buick LaCrosse remains a comfortable, cathedral-quiet and roomy sedan for driver and passengers." -- Kelley Blue Book (2015)
  • "One of the car's best features is how well the engineers handled noise and vibration. In fact, the car was so quiet -- even on poorly maintained highways -- that the road sometimes faded away as an afterthought. With the engine off at every stop sign and red light, the quietness was even more noticeable in city driving." -- AutoTrader (2015)

The 2016 Buick LaCrosse has seats for five and comes with cloth upholstery and an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. Leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel and a power rear shade are optional. The LaCrosse's front seats are spacious and comfortable, most reviewers say, and its back seats have ample legroom for tall passengers.

  • "As expected in this class, passenger comfort is a LaCrosse highlight. The front seats are supportive and provide ample adjustments for different physiques, while rear legroom is generous enough that even NBA forwards could comfortably sit back there without complaint." -- Edmunds
  • "Although the seats are generally comfortable for long rides, they could benefit from a bit more bolster for front passengers' hips and thighs." -- AutoTrader (2015)
  • "As before, the LaCrosse offers ample rear seat space. ..." -- Left Lane News (2015)
  • "Noise levels inside are commendably low and rear-seat space is notably generous." -- Kelley Blue Book (2013)

Interior Features

The 2016 Buick LaCrosse's standard features list includes dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, a rearview camera, OnStar with 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hot spot capability (subscription required after a three-month trial), two USB ports, satellite radio, Bluetooth and Buick’s IntelliLink infotainment system with an 8-inch touch-screen display. Optional features include an 11-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system, Apple CarPlay, a head-up display, navigation, forward collision alert, lane change alert, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, a sunroof, push-button start and rear parking sensors.

Test drivers are pleased with the LaCrosse's straightforward IntelliLink infotainment system, noting its easy iPhone connectivity and sharp graphics. Auto writers also like that there are multiple ways to control the system, including knobs, voice recognition and steering wheel buttons. However, some critics say the touch screen may be difficult for drivers to reach. A few reviewers praise the optional head-up display for its adjustability and the amount of useful information it displays.

  • "The touchscreen interface is generally user-friendly and features crisply rendered icons plus Apple CarPlay compatibility, with Android Auto added to later-production models. However, the touchscreen's location may require an uncomfortable reach for some drivers. On the bright side, the LaCrosse is one of the few vehicles in this price range to provide 4G LTE data connectivity and mobile WiFi as standard equipment." -- Edmunds
  • "Connecting an iPhone to the system worked flawlessly, and the Bluetooth audio phone connection was clear and easy for incoming callers to understand, even at highway speeds. Buick's standard IntelliLink infotainment system also adds value." -- AutoTrader (2015)
  • "The head-up display on the 2015 LaCrosse sedan is one of the best we've seen. It displays speed, navigation instructions, audio status (including song titles) and other key information in your line of sight, seemingly out there over the hood, with easily adjusted brightness and vertical position." -- Kelley Blue Book (2015)
  • "Redundant dashboard knobs and steering wheel controls give users alternate options for controlling IntelliLink, and there's also a new natural language recognition system that recognizes a staggering number of phrases - effectively eliminating the need for the clunky and cumbersome memorized commands." -- Left Lane News (2015)

The 2016 LaCrosse has 13.3 cubic feet of trunk space, which is less than most rivals have. A split-folding rear seat is standard. With 10.8 cubic feet of space, the Buick LaCrosse eAssist model has even less trunk room. Critics point out that access to the trunk is limited by a narrow opening and high liftover that make it hard to load bulky items.

  • "With all that space in back, apparently there wasn't much left for the trunk. With just 13.3 cubic feet of capacity, the LaCrosse V6's trunk holds less than some compact sedans. Moreover, the eAssist powertrain includes a trunk-mounted battery pack that reduces capacity to a paltry 10.8 cubic feet. Either way, the smallish opening can make loading larger items problematic." -- Edmunds
  • "… the 13.3-cubic-foot trunk is more appropriate to a compact sedan." -- Left Lane News (2015)
  • "A small trunk opening and high liftover restrict access to the cargo area. The eAssist battery pack steals space, eliminating most of the pass through to the cabin." -- Consumer Guide (2013)
