2019 Buick Envision Interior Review

Interior: 7.1

The 2019 Buick Envision looks and feels modern inside, but it isn't on the level of some German SUVs. The seats provide plenty of support and comfort, and the Envision has a good amount of cargo space for a luxury compact SUV. It also offers a nice array of easy-to-use tech features.

  • "Materials are solid and the faux-wood trim makes a strong statement without cheapening the design. My only gripe with the layout is use of soft-touch HVAC controls, which don't give any feedback via feel or sound. It also has an odd gauge-like clock that feels out of place in the top right of the center stack." -- Automobile Magazine
  • "The Envision may be imported from China, but on the inside it feels every bit like an American Buick. And that's most obvious in the choice of leather. On our $44,595 Premium II tester, the heated and cooled leather seats were smooth, softly padded and felt upscale. Perhaps less impressive was the tiny clock on the dash and the questionable authenticity of the dark gray grained 'wood.' And we found the touch controls for the climate control required a frustratingly firm push to change temperature." -- Autoweek
  • "The Envision's interior ratchets the excitement up a notch. Cabin materials are easy on both the eyes and the fingertips, although the feel isn't quite up to German spec (then again, neither is the price, so that's hardly a sin)." -- CNET (2017)

The Envision seats five. Cloth upholstery and heated, power-adjustable front seats come standard. Leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats are available.

The comfortable front seats remain supportive on long drives and provide enough room even for tall adults. Drivers enjoy good visibility in all directions. The rear seats have more space than some competitors' second rows and slide forward and backward to create more room if necessary.

There are two full sets of LATCH connectors for installing car seats, but the system has its issues. The lower anchors are set deep in the seat and require a lot of force to attach straps. The tether anchors can be confused with other hardware.

  • "The Envision is known for its roomy rear seat thanks to the long 108.3-inch wheelbase. And that helps the Buick carve out more rear-seat legroom and cargo space than its close competitor, the Lincoln MKC. My 6-foot frame had plenty of room to cross my legs and get comfy in the reclining back seat. Plus, there's enough room that parents should find an easy time fitting rear-facing child seats without crowding front seat passengers." -- Autoweek
  • "Front seats are well cushioned and shaped and the top trim's thigh cushion extender should be of particular interest for taller drivers. Rear seats can easily accommodate adults and are further enhanced by sliding/reclining features. Thanks to the absence of a center floor hump, even the rear center passenger will have enough legroom. With plenty of sound insulation and standard active noise cancellation, the Envision's cabin remains pleasantly quiet on the highway." -- Edmunds (2017)
  • "Space up front is ample, and the story is the same in the second row -- for occupants at or under the 6-foot mark, at least. Anyone taller than 6-foot dead will find rear headroom to be slightly lacking." -- CNET (2017)

  • "Tech-wise, Buick offers a suite of class-leading connectivity options. For 2019, the Envision comes with next-generation wireless charging with improved wattage capacity and iPhone8 and iPhoneX compatibility." -- Autoblog
  • "Buick's GM-based infotainment system is easy to use. The inclusion of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto makes operation even easier." -- Edmunds (2018)
  • "Nestled in their standard heated seats, the driver and front passenger will enjoy easy-to-see-and-use controls and buttons for the climate and audio systems, mainly because they're actual buttons and knobs, and not the finicky touch-based systems employed by others, including some GM brands." -- Kelley Blue Book (2017)

The Envision provides 26.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up and 57.3 cubic feet with them folded. Few rivals have more space with the rear seats up, but the Envision's maximum capacity is in the middle of the pack for the class.

In addition to folding down, the rear seats slide forward and backward. That means you can move them to maximize cargo or passenger space, depending on your needs. A hands-free power liftgate comes standard, and the low cargo floor makes it easy to load your stuff.

  • "Remote release handles in that space allow you to unlatch the rear seats, but in order to get a flat load floor, you have to push the seatbacks down from the rear doorway until they lock in place." -- Edmunds (2017)
  • "The nicely finished cargo hold has a reasonably low liftover height as well as handles to drop the rear seatbacks should you need to accommodate more than 27 cubic feet of chattels. That cargo figure places it just ahead of the MKC … but behind the Q5 and the XC60." -- Car and Driver (2017)
  • "The 60/40-split rear bench seat folds almost flat to allow for a large cargo area. That rear bench also slides fore and aft if you'd rather trade legroom for cargo room, or want a shorter reach from the front seat to a child in a car seat." -- Cars.com (2016)
