2020 Buick Enclave Interior Review

Scorecard

Interior: 8.6

The 2020 Buick Enclave has a mix of soft-touch and low-rent cabin materials. Passenger and cargo room are great, and there are lots of standard and available tech and safety features.

  • Altogether, the interior's design is handsome and practical, but material quality and attention to detail are what holds the Enclave back from being competitive with its luxury-branded rivals. The wood trim looks and feels chintzy, the sunshades for the optional panoramic roof aren't power operated, and only the passenger-side second-row seat slides forward to allow third-row passengers in and out—a clear cost-cutting move that compromises convenience." -- Car and Driver
  • "Staking out the middle ground between mainstream and luxury three-row SUVs, the 2020 Buick Enclave comes with a long list of standard features, sophisticated in-car technology, and a quiet, comfortable cabin that can seat up to seven passengers." -- Edmunds
  • The new Enclave is very handsome, in a modern Buick way, just as the Traverse is very handsome in a modern Chevy way. Buick claims Acura, Lincoln … and Infiniti as chief competitors, though not Audi. If Buick, and indeed all of GM, could step up its interior quality and fit-and-finish just a bit more, the Buick Enclave Avenir might be able to take on something like the popular–and expensive–Audi Q7." -- Automobile Magazine (2018)

Seating

In its standard setup, this SUV seats up to seven people. Cloth upholstery is standard, as are power-adjustable front seats and heated front seats. Leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, massaging front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated second-row seats, a power-folding third row are available.

The seats are comfortable and offer plenty of headroom and legroom in the first two rows. Even the third row can reasonably accommodate adults, but on longer trips, the space is ideally suited to younger travelers.

For securing child safety seats, the Enclave has two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the second row, as well as a single tether anchor for each third-row seat.

  • "That's a properly large space, and even with the seats up, passengers enjoy exceptional room to spread out and get comfortable." -- Edmunds
  • The front two rows are all-day comfy if minimally supportive around corners; the sliding and reclining second-row seats afford limo-like amounts of legroom. As with the Traverse, only the passenger-side seat in the second row folds forward to allow access to the wayback. There's ample room in the rear bench for two full-size adults on short trips, but we started to cramp up after about an hour; squeezing in three occupants is a big ask, so it's best to think of the Enclave as a six-seater." -- Car and Driver (2018)

Interior Features

This Buick comes with a generous helping of standard features, including an infotainment system with an 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, an OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot, satellite radio, a six-speaker stereo, six USB ports, Bluetooth, and Siri Eyes Free. Thanks to some well-placed physical controls, the Enclave's tech features are easy to use.

There are some comfort and convenience amenities too. These include tri-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, proximity keyless entry, remote start, and a noise cancellation system called QuietTuning. On top of that, you’ll get a rearview camera and rear parking sensors.

Available upgrades include wireless device charging, navigation, a 10-speaker Bose sound system, a 120-volt household-style power outlet, an 8-inch configurable driver display, and a dual-pane moonroof.

Several safety features are available too, such as adaptive cruise control, a pre-collision warning system with pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency braking, full-speed automatic braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, front parking sensors, a safety alert seat, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, a rear camera mirror, a surround-view parking camera system, and a following distance indicator.

  • "The interface is user-friendly and rendered in a lovely arrangement with crisp graphics and an abundance of features." -- Car and Driver
  • "We like the Enclave's long list of standard features and its high level of in-car technology." -- Edmunds (2019)
  • "The Enclave's new standard eight-inch infotainment screen is as good as anything GM has, and the Avenir's padded pleather dash looks and feels richer than it is." -- Automobile Magazine (2018)

Cargo

The Enclave has 23.6 cubic feet of space behind the third-row seats, 58 cubic feet behind the second row, and a total of 97.6 cubic feet behind the first row. Those are impressive numbers for the midsize SUV segment. A hands-free liftgate comes standard.

  • "If cargo space is your main concern, the Enclave is the best choice in this segment, as it offers the most cubic feet of storage space in each of its configurations. In our testing, it swallowed a whopping 38 carry-on boxes with all of its seats down and provided space for an impressive five carry-ons behind its power-operated third row of seats." -- Car and Driver
  • "With all rear seats folded down, you have a huge load floor. Standard roof rails can handle optional crossbars to load bulky and large items on the roof." -- Edmunds (2019)
