2019 Buick Enclave Interior Review

Interior: 8.8

Comfort levels are high inside the 2019 Buick Enclave. The supple seats are relaxing and roomy, and the nearly noiseless cabin makes it easy to carry on a conversation across all three rows of seats. Cargo space is bountiful, as are standard features. The interior styling has a modern, upscale touch, but the Enclave's cabin isn't as opulent as some rivals.

  • "Whichever version you get, know that you'll have a quiet and comfortable cabin that can seat up to seven passengers. The Enclave is one of the biggest SUVs in its class, in fact, and seat comfort and roominess are two of its strong points." -- Edmunds
  • "The Enclave's sculpted shape carries over into its cavernous interior, with a contoured dashboard that flows nicely across the cabin and into the door panels and is accented by dark faux wood and metal-look plastic trim. Soft-touch points abound, and most of the visible materials are of relatively high quality, although some cheaper bits can be seen on the steering wheel and down toward the floor." -- Car and Driver (2018)
  • "The new Enclave is very handsome, in a modern Buick way, just as the Traverse is very handsome in a modern Chevy way. Buick claims Acura, Lincoln (which has no competing model, yet), and Infiniti as chief competitors, though not Audi. If Buick, and indeed all of GM, could step up its interior quality and fit-and-finish just a bit more, the Buick Enclave Avenir might be able to take on something like the popular-and expensive-Audi Q7." -- Automobile Magazine (2018)

The Enclave has room for seven people, with a set of second-row captain's chairs and a third-row bench seat. Its seats are cushy and spacious. The third row provides ample legroom and more space than the back rows of most competitors, though headspace is a little low for tall travelers.

Cloth upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, and heated front seats come standard. Leather seats are included in all but the base trim. Ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, power-folding third-row seats, and a power tilting-and-telescoping heated steering wheel are also available. There are LATCH anchors on hand for securing child car seats. For easier access to the third row, the available Smart Slide second-row passenger seat can move forward even with a forward-facing car seat installed.

  • "Buick's seven-seat configuration should provide ample room for second-row and third-row passengers. Getting in and out is facilitated by a tilt-up second-row seat that can provide quick access to the third row, even with a child safety seat installed." -- Edmunds
  • "The front two rows are all-day comfy if minimally supportive around corners; the sliding and reclining second-row seats afford limo-like amounts of legroom. As with the Traverse, only the passenger-side seat in the second row folds forward to allow access to the wayback. There's ample room in the rear bench for two full-size adults on short trips, but we started to cramp up after about an hour; squeezing in three occupants is a big ask, so it's best to think of the Enclave as a six-seater." -- Car and Driver (2018)
  • "For starters, the Enclave is roomy but not overwhelmingly cavernous. … It was just as easy to speak with occupants in the rear of the vehicle as it was in the front. No shouting required. New sound-deadening materials and noise-cancellation improvements encouraged chatting because the new Enclave is cemetery quiet but without the creepy goosebumps vibe." -- New York Daily News (2018)

Interior Features

The Enclave's technology is impressive, both for the sheer volume of standard features and for how well the systems work. Its standard infotainment system comprises an 8-inch touch-screen display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, satellite radio, Siri Eyes Free, Bluetooth, and six speakers. Special shout-outs go to the OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot (which is fast and gets great reception), and the six USB ports (split up between all three rows). Other standard features include a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, remote start, tri-zone automatic climate control, active noise cancellation, a proximity key, and push-button start.

Upgraded safety feature options are plentiful and include a 360-degree surround-view camera, a rear camera mirror (flip a switch and your rearview mirror shows a camera feed of the area behind the vehicle), blind spot monitoring, lane change alert, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, low-speed automatic emergency braking, full-speed automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, a following distance indicator, a Safety Alert seat, automatic high beams, active lane keep assist, lane departure warning, front parking sensors, and adaptive cruise control.

Other available options include wireless smartphone charging, a navigation system, a 10-speaker Bose audio system, HD Radio, an 8-inch configurable driver display, a 120-volt household-style power outlet, a rear-seat infotainment system with DVD player, and a dual-pane moonroof.

  • "We like the Enclave's long list of standard features and its high level of in-car technology." -- Edmunds
  • "There's a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot that runs on the AT&T network and impresses with its nearly-always-on reception that bests phones from the same carrier. There are USB ports all the way back into the third row. The gauge cluster screen offers a whole bunch of information with only a few presses of a steering wheel button, and an available rearview mirror can function as either a regular mirror or a screen that displays what the backup camera sees." -- CNET (2018)
  • "The Enclave's new standard eight-inch infotainment screen is as good as anything GM has, and the Avenir's padded pleather dash looks and feels richer than it is." -- Automobile Magazine (2018)

The Enclave provides ample storage space behind the rearmost seats and throughout the cabin. It boasts 23.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, 58 cubic feet with the third row folded, and a maximum of 97.6 cubic feet with all rear seats folded. The standard hands-free power liftgate opens with the wave of your foot and is much appreciated when your arms are full.

  • "With all rear seats folded down, you have a huge load floor. Standard roof rails can handle optional crossbars to load bulky and large items on the roof." -- Edmunds
  • "When it comes time to carry cargo, the Enclave offers a 10-percent increase over the previous generation. … There's even an extra 3.1 cubic feet hidden in an underfloor storage bin and up to 5,000 pounds of towing capacity when properly equipped." -- Boston Globe (2018)
  • "Storage slots are everywhere. Even the glovebox is large enough to hold a light jacket or two." -- New York Daily News (2018)
