2014 Buick Enclave Overview

Is the 2014 Buick Enclave a Good Used SUV?

With an impressive safety score, a high-end cabin, and one of the biggest cargo capacities in the class, the 2014 Buick Enclave is a great used SUV. We named it our 2014 Best 3-Row Midsize SUV for Families. However, like some rivals, it has poor rear visibility and can have a hard time navigating parking lots.

The 2014 Buick Enclave has a V6 engine that generates 288 horsepower and delivers adequate acceleration in most situations. The Enclave gets an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, which is typical for a midsize SUV. The Enclave offers a smooth – but not overly soft – ride on most road surfaces. It has precise steering and remains composed on winding roads. The Enclave’s size can make it difficult to maneuver in small areas. It comes with front-wheel drive (FWD), while all-wheel drive (AWD) is available.

The Enclave seats up to eight people in three rows. Its cabin has premium materials, giving the space a luxury look and feel. The first two rows have good space for passengers and comfortable seating. Adults can fit in the third row, but they won't be comfortable. This is true of many 3-row midsize SUVs. Visibility out the back window is poor. The Enclave’s 115.2 cubic feet of cargo space tops most rivals.

The base Enclave comes standard with a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, Bluetooth, and a touch-screen infotainment system. Upper trims are available with navigation, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, blind spot alert, and a rear-seat entertainment system.

How Reliable Is the 2014 Buick Enclave?

J.D. Power and Associates gives the 2014 Buick Enclave a 3.5 out of five for reliability. That's above average for all vehicles, as well as for the class.

How Safe Is the Enclave?

The 2014 Buick Enclave has one of the highest safety scores in its class. It received the highest rating of Good in each of its four Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests (moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints and seats). From the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Enclave earned perfect scores (five out of five stars) in each crash test (overall front, front driver side, and front passenger side).

Standard safety equipment in the 2014 Buick Enclave includes a rearview camera and rear parking sensors. Available safety features include forward collision alert, lane departure warning, blind spot alert, and a rear-seat entertainment system.

Should I Consider Another Used Enclave?

The 2014 Buick Enclave is part of the SUV’s first generation, which began in 2007 and includes the 2017 model year. In 2013, Buick refreshed the Enclave with updated interior and exterior styling and a standard touch-screen infotainment system. It will save you several thousand dollars over a 2014 model, but it won’t provide dual back-seat USB ports or available lane departure warning and forward collision alert.

Which Used Buick Enclave Is Right for Me?

There are three trim levels for the 2014 Buick Enclave: Convenience (1SD), Leather (1SL), and Premium (1SN). The base trim offers a competitive number of standard features for the class, including a rearview camera, a touch-screen infotainment system, Bluetooth, and rear parking sensors. To get features like navigation, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, blind spot alert, and a rear-seat entertainment system, you will need to purchase a higher trim.

Purchasing a certified pre-owned Buick Enclave will cost you a bit more, but there are benefits. With Buick’s CPO program, there is a one-year/12,000-mile limited warranty, and the original new-car powertrain warranty is extended to seven years or 100,000 miles. Buick CPO models must pass a 172-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read Buick’s warranty page carefully.

2014 Buick Enclave and Other SUVS to Consider

Which Is Better: 2014 Buick Enclave or 2014 GMC Acadia?

Both the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave are 3-row SUVs from General Motors, so they have a lot in common. They have the same safety scores and reliability ratings, as well as similar cargo capacities. Their lists of standard and available features are almost identical. The Acadia and Enclave both have top-notch cabin materials and the same powertrain and performance dynamics. Choosing between these two models comes down to which one suits your personal style.

Which Is Better: 2014 Buick Enclave or 2014 Toyota Highlander?

The Toyota Highlander doesn’t have as much cargo space as the Enclave, but it does have available adaptive cruise control and a voice amplifier that lets the driver talk with rear-seat passengers more easily. Both SUVs have premium cabin materials, but the Highlander’s base four-cylinder engine is no match for the Enclave’s V6. Considering the Highlander costs more, the Enclave is the better buy.

Which Is Better: 2014 Buick Enclave or 2014 Acura MDX?

The Acura MDX is a luxury midsize SUV, so you’d pay more for it than for an Enclave. However, the MDX offers several advantages. It has sharp steering and agile handling, as well as a comfortable ride. Its 290-horsepower V6 engine has plenty of power in the city and on the highway, while earning better fuel economy estimates than the Enclave's V6. The MDX's interior is quiet and attractive. It has first-rate materials, including standard leather upholstery. However, the MDX has less cargo space than the Enclave.
