2013 Buick Enclave Overview

Is the 2013 Buick Enclave a Good Used SUV?

A used 2013 Enclave is an excellent choice for a midsize SUV. It has superb safety scores and lots of passenger space, and it also handles well. However, some competitors offer quicker acceleration and lower ownership costs.

Used 2013 Buick Enclave Performance and Interior

A 288-horsepower V6 engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission powers the 2013 Buick Enclave. The engine isn't as potent as those found in some class rivals, but it has enough muscle for your daily commute. The transmission has smooth shifts, and this SUV crossover maintains its composure whether on uneven pavement or twisty roads. The Enclave delivers an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway – average ratings in the class. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available.

The Enclave seats up to eight people across three rows, and its refined interior features wood and chrome accents. Cloth upholstery is standard, but some used models have upgraded leather seats. The first and second rows have plenty of head- and legroom. The third-row seats are suitable for adults, though those on the tall side may feel squished. With over 115 cubic feet of cargo space, the Enclave has one of the largest storage capacities in its class. Rear visibility can be a problem, and the SUV’s roof pillars can obstruct your vision. The standard rearview camera helps with this issue when backing up. There are two full sets of LATCH car-seat anchors and tethers on the second-rows seats; the third-row middle seat has an additional upper tether anchor.

The Enclave has an abundant list of standard features. These include a USB port, Bluetooth, satellite radio, a power liftgate, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, heated mirrors, power front seats, and the IntelliLink infotainment system. The 7-inch infotainment system has simple controls and includes voice recognition and smartphone app integration. Because technology standards and platforms evolve rapidly, be sure to test your phone’s connection with this system before you buy.

Some models come with a navigation system, a sunroof, heated and cooled front seats, an upgraded Bose audio system, and a rear-seat entertainment system.

How Safe Is the Enclave?

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2013 Buick Enclave the highest rating of Good in four crash tests and named it a Top Safety Pick. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the Enclave a perfect five-star overall rating. Is the 2013 Enclave the Best Model Year to Buy?

The 2013 Buick Enclave is part of a generation that launched in 2008 and ended with the 2017 model year. You could save some money by choosing a previous model year, but you’ll miss out on the 2013 model’s significant interior and exterior refresh. The rearview camera and IntelliLink infotainment system also became standard features for 2013.

Which Used Buick Enclave Is Right for Me?

The Enclave comes in three trims, which Buick refers to as equipment groups. They are: Convenience (1SD), Leather (1SL), and Premium (1SN). The base 1SD trim is feature-rich, with a standard rearview camera and a 7-inch infotainment system. If you want more driver assistance features like blind spot monitoring or niceties like cooled seats, you'll want to take a look at the higher trim levels.

The Enclave has an above-average reliability rating, but you still may want to consider a certified pre-owned model. With Buick’s CPO program, there is a one-year/12,000-mile limited warranty, and the original new-car powertrain warranty is extended to six years or 100,000 miles. Buick CPO models must pass a 172-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read Buick’s warranty page carefully. The model's original sale date determines whether it is eligible for the CPO program.

2013 Buick Enclave and Other SUVs to Consider

Which Is Better: 2013 Buick Enclave or 2013 GMC Acadia?

Like the Enclave, the 2013 GMC Acadia has high safety scores, a spacious third row, and ample cargo room. However, the Acadia suffers from humdrum handling and a slightly lower reliability score. The GMC’s interior is handsome, but the quality of its materials doesn’t match the Buick’s. Both SUVs have similar ownership costs, but you’re better off with the Enclave.

Which Is Better: 2013 Buick Enclave or 2013 Chevrolet Traverse?

The 2013 Chevy Traverse and the Enclave are similar crossover SUVs. They both have a large cargo area, generous space in the third row, and the same reliability score of 3.5 out of five. Additionally, both vehicles have adequate – but uninspiring – acceleration. The Enclave has a higher price point, owing to its interior refinement. If an opulent interior is at the top of your check list, you'll want to go with the Buick. Otherwise, the Traverse is a suitable alternative.

Which Is Better: 2013 Buick Enclave or 2013 Toyota Highlander?

The 2013 Toyota Highlander has lower ownership costs and better fuel economy ratings than the Enclave, but the Buick is a better vehicle. It has superior safety scores, more passenger and cargo room, and higher-quality materials.
