A six-speed automatic transmission is standard, and test drivers noted that it shifts smoothly and quickly. Fuel economy is up to an EPA-estimated 17/24 mpg city/highway, which is similar to the estimates of other V6-powered rivals in the segment. When it was new, reviewers praised the Enclave for its composed ride quality. While it was never called out for being especially athletic, auto journalists were impressed with the Enclave's poised handling. Test drivers found the Enclave somewhat difficult to maneuver in close quarters because of its large size, but were impressed with the stopping power of its brakes.

When it was new, test drivers remarked that the 2012 Enclave has one of the most opulent interiors in the class, with upscale materials and good build quality. Reviewers said that the Enclave's front seats are comfortable have ample legroom and headroom. Some critics mentioned that rearward visibility could be better from the driver’s seat. The Enclave's spacious accommodations in both the second and third rows of seats were complimented by auto journalists. The Enclave offers up to 115.3 cubic feet of cargo space, which is very good for the class. Standard features include tri-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth and a six-speaker stereo with an auxiliary input. Other SUVs to Consider

With its optional V6, reviewers agreed that the 2012 Toyota Highlander has lively acceleration. They said it also has one of the more comfortable rides among midsize SUVs and appreciated that its small size makes it fairly easy to maneuver in tighter spaces.

When it was new, reviewers billed the 2012 Mazda CX-9 as one of the most fun-to-drive SUVs in the segment, with nimble handling and responsive steering. The CX-9 also comes with more standard features than many 2012 class rivals, including tri-zone climate control and Bluetooth.
