2013 BMW X6 Review

The four-seat 2013 BMW X6 has exciting performance, but it is extremely impractical, with little cargo space for the class and cramped rear seats, reviewers said.

Pros & Cons

  • Strong acceleration
  • Tight cargo space
  • Cramped rear seats
  • Feels heavy around curves

2013 BMW X6 Overview

With either its base six-cylinder engine or one of its two available V8 engines, reviewers noted that the BMW X6 has plenty of power. The base six-cylinder model gets an EPA-estimated 16/23 mpg city/highway, which is fairly typical for the class. Several test drivers complained that though the X6 is fast, it’s also heavy, which keeps it from having the kind of handling expected from a BMW. Still, others were pleased with its handling and the overall driving experience despite its size.

Compared to others in the class, reviewers said the 2013 BMW X6 has a small interior. Its coupe-like shape limits rear-seat space, as critics commented that it offers very little head- or legroom in the back. The X6’s design also contributes to it having significantly less cargo space than other SUVs. A few test drivers commented the X6’s infotainment system is not intuitive. The 2013 X6 seats four with its standard rear bucket seats, but an available rear bench seat brings the seating capacity up to five. Standard features include a USB port, Bluetooth, leather upholstery, BMW’s iDrive infotainment system, quad-zone automatic climate control and front and rear parking sensors. Navigation, a head-up display, massaging front seats and a rearview camera are available.

Other SUVs to Consider

The 2013 Porsche Cayenne has extremely fast acceleration and sharp handling, reviewers said, and with its  available diesel engine, the Cayenne returns good fuel economy. The Cayenne comes standard with seats for five and has more cargo space than the X6.

The 2013 Infiniti FX has nimble handling and very strong acceleration with its available V8 engine, reviewers said. Most test drivers were also pleased with the straightforward operation of its navigation and audio systems, and it has a bit more cargo space than the X6.
