The 2015 BMW X5 is one of the most enjoyable vehicles to drive in the luxury midsize SUV class. It boasts athletic handling and three available engines with plenty of power. The X5’s modern interior features a large touch-screen infotainment system that takes little time to get accustomed to. This two-row SUV’s front seats are some of the best in the class, and the second row has plenty of space for adults. A third row is available, but its only suitable for children.

BMW redesigned the X5 for the 2014 model year, and there were no major changes for 2015. Since 2015, there have been few updates. The xDrive40e plug-in hybrid debuted for the 2016 model year. A Wi-Fi hot spot and wireless charging became available for 2017, and a rearview camera became standard for 2018. Unless you want these updates in your X5, the 2014 model is your best option.

Which Used BMW X5 Model Is Right for Me?

The 2015 X5 comes in five trims: sDrive35i, xDrive35i, xDrive35d, xDrive50i, and the high-performance X5M. Choosing between these models mostly comes down to your powertrain and drivetrain preferences. The base real-wheel-drive sDrive35i has a 300-horsepower six-cylinder engine that delivers plenty of oomph. Upper trim levels come with all-wheel drive and stronger engines.

Most shoppers should go with the xDrive50i, which has a 445-horsepower V8 engine as well as a rearview camera. The performance-oriented X5 M comes with a twin-turbocharged V8 engine that makes 567 horsepower.

BMW offers a CPO program for vehicles five years old or less. The BMW CPO program is available on vehicles with less than 60,000 miles on the odometer. The program covers buyers for one year with unlimited mileage after the expiration of the four-year/50,000-mile new-vehicle limited warranty for passenger cars and SUVs for a maximum of five years of coverage. How Safe Is the X5?

The 2015 X5’s safety scores are about average for the class. This BMW received an overall rating of five out of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Administration, with five stars in the side and frontal crash tests and four stars in the rollover test. The X5 also earned the highest score of Good in two crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

There are no standard driver assistance features in the 2015 X5. Available safety tech includes a rearview camera, a 360-degree parking camera, a head-up display, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, active park assist, and a night vision system with pedestrian detection.

How Does the 2015 BMW X5 Drive?

The base 2015 BMW X5 sDrive35i is powered by a 300-horsepower twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine. The X5 is also available with a 255-horsepower twin-turbocharged six-cylinder and a 445-horsepower twin-turbo V8 engine. All models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and all but the base model feature all-wheel drive.

There’s considerable power under the hood of the X5, no matter which engine you choose. Every power plant delivers quick acceleration off the line and plenty of power for passing cars on the highway. This BMW has sporty handling, and it remains firmly planted around tight corners.

Does the 2015 BMW X5 Get Good Gas Mileage?

According to the EPA, the base model returns 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, which are just above average for the class. The diesel-powered xDrive35d model achieves better fuel economy estimates of 24/31 mpg city/highway.

How Many People Does the 2015 BMW X5 Seat?

The 2015 BMW X5 has standard seating for five in two rows. Some models come with a third row. Synthetic leather upholstery and heated, 10-way power-adjustable front seats are standard. Available seating upgrades include genuine leather upholstery, 20-way power-adjustable multi-contour front seats, ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats.

The front seats are exceptionally comfortable, and the second row has ample leg- and headroom for adults. The available third row is best left for children.  

How Many Car Seats Fit in the 2015 BMW X5?
