2015 BMW X5 Overview

Is the 2015 BMW X5 a Good Used SUV?

The 2015 X5 is one of the best choices in the luxury midsize SUV class if you value performance but still want top-notch interior quality and passenger room. If you’re looking for utility or value, though, there are several other competitors that have more cargo room and better reliability.

Used 2015 BMW X5 Performance and Interior

The base 2015 BMW X5 sDrive35i comes with a 300-horsepower turbocharged six-cylinder engine. A 255-horsepower, twin-turbocharged six-cylinder and a 445-horsepower, twin-turbo V8 engine are also available. All models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and all but the base model feature all-wheel drive.

No matter which engine is under the hood, the X5 delivers brute, raw power that allows it to blow past most other cars on the road. This sporty SUV also has athletic handling and stays solidly planted to the pavement through turns.

Fuel economy estimates for the X5 range from 15 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway for the xDrive50i to 24 mpg in the city and 31 on the highway with the diesel xDrive35d. The 567-horsepower high-performance X5M gets 14/19 mpg city/highway.

The 2015 X5 seats five and comes standard with leatherette upholstery and heated, 10-way power-adjustable front seats. The second row has ample leg- and headroom. There are two complete sets of LATCH child-seat connectors on the outboard second-row seats and a tether anchor for the middle seat. A third row of seats is available with the X5, but it’s only big enough for children. Seating upgrades include leather, 20-way power-adjustable multicontour front seats, ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats.

The 2015 X5 is big on standard features and technology – every model comes with push-button start, a panoramic moonroof, and the intuitive iDrive infotainment system, which also includes navigation, satellite radio, and a 10.2-inch display screen. Available features include a rear-seat entertainment system and a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium sound system.

Used 2015 BMW X5 Prices

The price of a used 2015 X5 ranges from about $38,800 for a base sDrive35i to around $51,300 for an xDrive50i. A used X5M will almost certainly cost more than other trims. Prices vary with the car’s condition, mileage, features, and location.

Should I Consider Another Used X5?

Which Used BMW X5 Is Right for Me?

The 2015 BMW X5 comes in five major trims: sDrive35i, xDrive35i, xDrive35d, xDrive50i, and the high-performance X5M. The main difference between these X5s is the drivetrain, so that should guide your decision. Your best bet will be an xDrive50i, which has a more powerful engine and a rearview camera.

If you’re nervous about buying a used luxury vehicle, consider a certified pre-owned X5. The BMW CPO program has three levels based on the vehicle’s age and the number of miles on the odometer: Certified Pre-Owned Elite, Certified Pre-Owned, and Pre-Owned. Each level receives the balance of the original new-car warranty. Certified Pre-Owned Elite vehicles get an additional one-year/25,000-mile warranty, while Certified Pre-Owned models receive an additional two-year/50,000-mile warranty. Pre-Owned BMWs receive no additional coverage. Each BMW undergoes an inspection before earning CPO status. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the BMW warranty page carefully.

2015 BMW X5 and Other SUVs to Consider

Which Is Better: 2015 BMW X5 or 2015 Audi Q7?

There are few reasons to buy a 2015 Audi Q7 over a 2015 X5 – or any other vehicle in the class. Its few highlights include standard seating for seven and all-wheel drive, but as the tenth year of its generation, the 2015 Q7’s interior design appears outdated compared to rivals. In fact, the Q7 showed its age so badly that Audi skipped the 2016 model year to completely redesign it for 2017. Though the Q7 has good power, it handles clumsily and can’t match the overall sportiness of the X5.

Which Is Better: 2015 BMW X5 or 2015 Lexus RX?

The 2015 Lexus RX ranks near the top of the class; it boasts the highest predicted reliability score possible and has a great overall value proposition. When it comes to performance, the RX’s lone engine option delivers an incredibly supple and comfortable ride, though its drive isn’t as sporty as the X5’s. The RX’s interior quality is also a little below that of the X5, and its infotainment features aren’t as easy to use. Because of the RX 350’s value, quality, and space, we named it our 2015 Best Luxury 2-Row SUV for the Money and Best Luxury 2-Row SUV for Families.

Which Is Better: 2015 BMW X5 or 2015 BMW X3?

The 2015 BMW X3 is in the smaller luxury compact SUV class, so you could likely find one of these for less money than an X5. Despite its class size, the X3 barely sacrifices any passenger or cargo room over its larger sibling. Therefore, there’s little reason to choose the X5 for its utility unless you need a third row. Both BMWs have potent engine options and agile handling, along with an elegant interior quality. The X5 is a little more modern from a features standpoint, with an infotainment screen that’s almost four inches larger than the X3’s.
