2014 BMW 6-Series Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2014 BMW 6-Series was new.

Interior: 8.4

Most automotive journalists like the top-notch materials and attractive design found inside the 2014 BMW 6-Series. A large, high-resolution navigation screen, roomy trunk and comfortable front seats also draw praise from critics. Still, some auto writers point out that competing super luxury cars offer a bit more back-seat passenger space.

  • "Refinement defines the 6 Series' interior, which features a driver-focused dashboard, a large, crisp navigation display and excellent build quality and materials." -- Edmunds
  • "Interior materials are exceptionally nice. …" -- AutoTrader
  • "Speaking of the interior it, too, is good looking, well built and comfortable. This might be the best BMW interior I've been in lately." -- AutoWeek (Gran Coupe)
  • "While we appreciate BMW's luxurious interiors, but we'd still rather ride in an Audi cabin. That said, new hues, more premium materials and interesting shapes are finding their way into new BMWs, and the latest-generation 6 Series may be one of the best examples yet." -- Kelley Blue Book

The 2014 BMW 6-Series coupe and convertible seat four, while the 6-Series Gran Coupe has seating for five. Leather upholstery, power-adjustable heated front seats and a tilt and telescoping steering wheel are standard. Available features include a heated steering wheel, 20-way power-adjustable and multi-contour front seats, ventilated front seats and a power rear sunshade. Reviewers say the 6-Series’ standard front seats are comfortable, but some are especially impressed with the optional multi-contour seats, which they say are remarkably supportive and offer a wide range of adjustment. Some critics say that the 6-Series doesn’t offer much rear-seat passenger space, which isn’t unusual for a coupe or convertible. While a few auto writers say that cars like the BMW 7-Series have roomier back seats, most agree that the 6-Series Gran Coupe’s rear seat is spacious enough for adults to be comfortable.

  • "The standard 10-way power front seats are more than pleasant, but the 20-way Multi-contour seats are so versatile and supportive that they're almost a must-buy." -- AutoTrader
  • "The leather-wrapped driver and passenger seats coddle bodies, and if their 10-way adjustment isn't enough, you can double that amount as an option." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The 6 Series excels at accommodating two passengers, but the rear seat is only suitable for adults on short trips." -- Edmunds (6-Series coupe)
  • "Rear-seat room is merely okay, however, considering the Gran Coupe is three inches shy of a short-wheelbase 7-series in overall length. It won't be an issue unless you sit behind a particularly gangly front occupant, so there's no need to fear being stuffed in the back for a few hundred miles." -- Car and Driver (2013)
  • "The new Gran Coupe shares its basic architecture and major components with the 6-Series coupe, with an additional 4.4 inches in overall body length on a wheelbase that has grown 4.5 inches. These gains have turned the coupe's abbreviated rear perches into proper seats that can now truly accommodate adults." -- MSN Autos (2013)
