2008 BMW 6-Series Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2008 BMW 6-Series was new.

This model has never been fully tested for interior. As a result, it doesn't have an overall score and cannot be ranked against other luxury sports cars.

Like its exterior, changes in the 2008 650i coupe's cabin are subtle. While critics find the front seats comfortable, many complain that BMW's iDrive system is anything but user-friendly.

The 650i coupe offers 2+2 seating for four, and comes standard with eight-way power front seats with two-way adjustable headrests and four-way power lumbar support. While reviewers find the front seats to be comfortable, most report that the rear is better suited for children or cargo. "The seats are satisfyingly supportive, snugly bolstered and more comfortable than their firm cushions suggest," writes Cars.com. "Backseat space is nearly nonexistent when the front seats are moved rearward." While Consumer Guide explains that there's "virtually no leg room with front seats pushed back more than halfway," Kelley Blue Book suggests the Mercedes-Benz CLK550 for those looking for "a more usable back seat."

Interior Features

Included among the many standard comfort and convenience features on every 2008 650i are a multi-function sport steering wheel, navigation system, leather upholstery, power tilt and telescopic steering wheel, and an AM/FM/CD stereo with ten speakers and an auxiliary audio input.

Consolidating the 650i's interior technology into a single interface is BMW's iDrive system. Though meant to simplify the management and control of convenience features, critics complain that it's difficult to use. "BMW's iDrive system is technically innovative, yet it's sure to annoy some drivers," writes Cars.com. Kelley Blue Book suggests buyers "who are put off by the complexity of its iDrive system -- that integrates control of the audio, ventilation, navigation and communication functions -- might want to consider a Jaguar XK8 or Porsche 911 Carrera S."

In addition to 13 cubic feet of cargo space, which Consumer Guide says is "par for the class," the 650i features a center console and front/rear cupholders.
