The all-wheel drive 2010 BMW 5-Series Sports Wagon has a standard turbocharged six-cylinder engine mated to a manual transmission. An automatic transmission is also available. Test drivers liked the peppy turbocharged engine and smooth-shifting manual transmission. The 5-Series Sports Wagon with the manual gets 16/23 mpg city/highway, while the automatic gets 16/24 mpg, which is low for the class. Test drivers said the steering is very responsive.

Test drivers liked the leatherette upholstery and other high-quality materials in the 2010 BMW 5-Series Sports Wagon. Some reviewers said the back seat is comfortable enough for three adults. The BMW 5-Series Sports Wagon has 58.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the second row folded, and 17 cubic feet with the second row in use. Standard features for the 5-Series Wagon include a panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, 10-speaker stereo system, leatherette upholstery, multi-media interface and automatic windshield wipers.
