2011 BMW 3-Series Wagon Overview

Reviewers said the 2011 BMW 3-Series Sports Wagon’s athletic handling, powerful braking and  overall comfortable ride make it one of the top picks in its class. The 3-Series Wagon comes with a six-cylinder engine that can be paired with a manual or an available automatic transmission. Reviewers said the automatic transmission is slow to downshift, but the manual is well-matched to the six-cylinder engine. With the automatic transmission and the base engine, the 3-Series Wagon does not get very impressive 18/27 mpg fuel economy, and the manual transmission is slightly worse. Rear-wheel drive is standard and an all-wheel drive system was available when it was new. Test drivers recommended all-wheel drive models for those who live in snowy climates.

Auto writers liked the interior of the 3-Series Sports Wagon, which features standard leatherette upholstery and wood or aluminum trim. However, other wagons in the class offer roomier interiors. With all seats in use, the 3-Series Wagon has 25 cubic feet of cargo space, which is middle-of-the-road in its class. For example, the 2011 Audi A6 Wagon has about 34 cubic feet with all seats in use. Rain-sensing wipers, heated mirrors and HD Radio are some of the standard features on the 2011 BMW 3-Series Sports Wagon. Optional features when it was new included heated front seats, a navigation system, BMW’s iDrive multi-media interface system and satellite radio.
