The 3-Series Wagon is one of the least expensive vehicles in the BMW lineup and buyers get a lot for their investment: a good engine, terrific handling, luxurious interior décor and a stylish BMW exterior. However, the backseat is cramped and cargo room is tight.

2008 BMW 3-Series Wagon Overview

The 2008 BMW 3-Series Wagon may be one of the cheapest models that BMW sells, but it's still packed with features, handles beautifully and has sleek styling. The auto press' major complaints are a cramped backseat, limited storage room, and cabin features that are poorly designed and difficult to use. To some, these problems may affect its suitability as a family hauler.

But most writers decide to play-up the wagon's winning traits. The 3-Series Wagon doesn't have the most powerful engine of the class, but it's still noted as fun to drive. And although its backseat is cramped and its controls are confusing, the car still has a stylish and comfortable interior. And then of course, there's the price. "Not only is it one of the least expensive BMWs," says The Auto Channel, "it is also good value for money."

The BMW 3-Series Wagon comes in two trims, the rear-wheel drive 328i and the 328xi, with all-wheel drive. If you're in the market for a luxury wagon, you should also take note of the Volvo XC70's pleasantly designed cabin, abundant cargo space and outstanding safety features.

  • "The same dynamic goodness that makes the 3-series sedan the envy of most automakers, but with a more practical cargo area." -- Car and Driver
  • "Buy the 3 Series Wagon if you want a sporty, premium compact wagon that's fun to drive and has style." -- Forbes
  • "The compact German sport wagon offers style and performance, but, unfortunately, not a lot of space for new families and all the gear they have to haul once baby arrives." -- Detroit News
