Q50 vs. 3 Series: Which Sporty Luxury Sedan Is Right for You?

BMW is often credited with being first to offer a contemporary sports sedan when it introduced its 1600-2 in 1966, followed two years later by the arrival of the peppier BMW 2002. Nissan, which produces Infiniti, also turned out to be an early player in this field when it began selling its Datsun 510 in 1968. With its independent suspension, front disc brakes, engine power, and a price that undercut the BMW 1600’s by 37 percent, the 510 was quickly dubbed “the poor man’s BMW.”

Today, the two companies still compete for buyers who want a sporty sedan. Nissan does this with its Infiniti Q50, which vies with the BMW 3 Series models. The Infiniti, however, does not enjoy the 510’s significant price advantage over the BMW 1600. So, how do these two sporty sedans, the 2018 BMW 3 Series and the 2018 Infiniti Q50, stack up in a head-to-head competition?
