2016 Jeep Renegade
The Jeep Renegade has great off-road capabilities for a subcompact SUV, and its nimble handling makes it enjoyable to drive on pavement as well. Inside, the Renegade has premium materials, spacious seats, and several unique styling elements such as mud splatter paint on some gauges, a small Bigfoot silhouette on the rear window, and a topographical map of Moab, Utah on the center console.
Renegade sales have slowed significantly since it first hit the market last year, and now it’s taking Jeep dealers over three months to sell one. That’s a slower turnover rate than rivals like the Honda HR-V and Chevy Trax.
Now is a good time to save on the Renegade. Dealers should be willing to negotiate a lower price in to clear out inventory, as slower sales mean dealer lots are becoming crowded with Renegades. To find the lowest price near you, take a look at our Best Price Program. Also take a look this month’s Jeep deals for low-interest financing and attractive lease offers.
2016 Fiat 500X
All-new for 2016, the Fiat 500X offers an attractive and upscale cabin, agile handling, and easy maneuverability in tight spaces. Its powertrain could be better though, as both the six-speed manual and nine-speed automatic transmission are unrefined, while the available four-cylinder engine is loud and not particularly powerful.
If you can live with those shortcomings, you’ll save some money by opting for the 500X. Over the last year, the turnover rate for the new Fiat has slowed from 12 days to about six months. Plus, the 500X’s average price has fallen more than 7 percent in that time to about $24,750, which is below average for a subcompact SUV.
Extremely slow demand means you’ll probably be able to negotiate that price down even further, as dealers will be anxious to move the 500X off the lot. Before you head to the dealership, use our Best Price Program to find the dealer with the lowest prices near you.
2016 Mercedes-Benz GLA
Among luxury subcompact SUVs, the Mercedes-Benz GLA is one of the most affordable options right now. It’s also a good buy from a quality standpoint, with powerful engine options, athletic handling, and a posh interior.
It’s taking Mercedes dealers nearly three months to sell a GLA, which is one of the slowest turnover rates in the class and twice as long as it was taking them a year ago. Likewise, the average price of the GLA has dipped a bit with the slow demand, and it’s now about $6,000 (13 percent) below average for the class.
With sagging demand and lower prices, now is a great time to save big on a new GLA. For the best finance and lease rates in your area this month, visit the Mercedes-Benz deals page. Before you go to the dealership, check out our Best Price Program to find the lowest price near you.
2016 Audi Q3
Another luxury subcompact SUV with good buying conditions this month is the premium and athletic Audi Q3. All-new last year, the Q3 doesn’t have the space or technology of some rivals like the BMW X1, but you’ll enjoy its engaging driving dynamics and upscale cabin materials.
Last year at this time Audi dealers were selling the Q3 in only 25 days, but now it’s taking them 66. Plus, the Q3’s current average transaction price of $37,522 is lower than rivals like the X1 ($39,802) and Land Rover Range Rover Evoque ($50,220).
You’ll have some negotiating power at the dealership thanks to slowing demand, and even if you’re not a savvy negotiator, the Q3’s low price right now means you’ll probably save some money relative to the competition. Be sure to use our Best Price Program to find the dealer with the lowest prices near you. Also check out this month’s Audi deals for low-interest financing and affordable lease offers.
2016 Kia Sportage
With the redesigned 2017 Kia Sportage recently hitting the market, you may be able to secure a great deal on the outgoing 2016 Sportage. It handles athletically, and has a punchy turbocharged engine and an upscale interior.
Demand for the Sportage has flat-lined in recent months, and its average transaction price ($26,540) is about $1,000 lower than the class average. If you settle for the 2016 model, you’ll likely be able to negotiate an even lower price as dealers will want to clear out space for the new 2017 model.

2016 Honda CR-V
Perennially one of the most practical SUVs on the road, the Honda CR-V is an excellent choice for a wide swath of buyers. It offers lots of seating and cargo space, easy-to-use technology, great gas mileage, and a smooth ride. Due to its combination of top-notch reviews and family-friendly space and features, we named the 2016 CR-V the Best Compact SUV for Families.
Despite all its strengths, demand for the CR-V has fallen over the last year, as the turnover rate has slowed from one month to two months. Prices haven’t fluctuated much in that timespan, but on average, the CR-V will cost you about $600 (2 percent) less than the norm for a compact SUV.
Slowing demand should give you some leverage to negotiate an even lower price at the dealership. To save more money, use our Best Price Program to pinpoint the dealer in your area with the lowest prices. 2016 Ford Escape
The 2016 Ford Escape offers engaging driving dynamics for a compact SUV. It handles athletically and its available turbocharged engines provide lively acceleration. The Escape’s premium and roomy cabin will also impress.
Despite all its strengths, sales of the 2016 Escape have slowed significantly, possibly due to the introduction of the refreshed 2017 model. The 2016 Escape’s current turnover rate is almost twice as slow as it was a year ago, and among the slowest in the class.
With very sluggish demand, now is a good time to head to your local Ford dealership and negotiate a great deal on a 2016 Escape. Before you head out, use our Best Price Program to find the best price near you. For financing and lease rates, check out Ford deals for this month. 2016 Nissan Rogue
The Nissan Rogue isn’t a great choice for driving enthusiasts, but it offers a comfortable ride, good gas mileage, an upscale cabin, plenty of space, and user-friendly technology.
It’s currently taking Nissan dealers 71 days to sell a Rogue, which is three weeks slower than the turnover rate a year ago. That means dealers may be willing to negotiate a lower price for the Rogue so they can clear off their lot faster. Additionally, the current average price for the Rogue ($27,026) is about $500 below average for a compact SUV.
Stagnating demand and high incentives mean it’s a prime time to get a great deal on a new Rogue. For the latest financing and lease rates, check out Nissan deals for this month. Also take a look at the Rogue’s pricing page for prices by trim and use our Best Price Program for the best price near you.
2016 Volvo XC60
Among luxury compact SUVs, the Volvo XC60 is one of the most affordable options right now. It’s a winner in terms of quality as well, with potent engine options, long-haul comfortable seats, lots of cargo space, and top-notch safety ratings.
Even though it has a lot to offer, it’s taking Volvo dealers four months to sell an XC60, which is the slowest rate in the class. Plus, the XC60’s average transaction price has fallen 5 percent in the last year, and it’s now almost $3,000 (6 percent) lower than average for a luxury compact SUV.
With slow sales and low prices, now is a great time to score a deal on a new XC60. However, before you head to the dealership, locate the best price near you by using our Best Price Program.
2016 Lexus NX
All-new last year, the Lexus NX isn’t the most athletic option in the class, but it has the luxurious cabin and smooth ride you’d expect of a Lexus, and its predicted reliability rating is strong for a luxury compact SUV. For its combination of quality and long-term value, we named the NX the 2016 Best Luxury Compact SUV for the Money.
The NX was flying off dealer lots when it first hit the market last year, but since then, demand has fallen steadily. It’s currently taking Lexus dealers 59 days to sell an NX, which is over a month longer than the turnover rate a year ago. Prices have fallen by about 3.5 percent in that timespan, and the NX is now $3,500 (8 percent) cheaper than the average luxury compact SUV.
If you’ve been eyeing an NX for a while, now is a good time buy. Sagging demand means you’ll have a lot of negotiating power at the dealership. Before you go, take a look at our Best Price Program to find which dealer is offering the lowest price near you. With flexible cargo space, a high ride height, and a carlike ride, it’s easy to see why Americans bought more crossover SUVs last month than any other type of vehicle.
There are so many great options on the market, so it’s not hard to find one that fits your needs. Finding the best deal can be tricky though. Demand and pricing vary month to month, but luckily for you, we’ve sorted through the data and come up with a list of great SUVs that you can save big money if you head to the dealership soon. Don’t just go to any dealership though. Use the U.S. New Best Price Program to find the dealer with the lowest prices near you.
Using data from Kelley Blue Book on days-to-turn and average transaction price, we’ve come up with a list of SUVs that you can get a great deal on now. Days-to-turn means the average number of days it takes a dealer to sell a particular model. The longer it takes, the lower demand is for that vehicle, which means there is a better chance you can negotiate a low price at the dealership. The average transaction price is simply the average take-home price for all purchases of a particular new model.
Combining these data points gives you a sense of the buying environment for a particular vehicle. The subcompact and compact SUVs in this slide show have very favorable conditions for buyers, so if you’re in the market for a new SUV and want the best deal, now is the time to bring home one of the following SUVs.
