2018 Ford Mustang

$25,680 - $55,940 | USN Overall Score: 9.0/10

When thinking about American muscle cars, it’s impossible not to think about the Ford Mustang. The original Pony car has seen some changes since its introduction in 1965. However, it’s still a strong contender for the best American muscle car on the market.

Base Mustangs are powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. That may not scream “muscle car,” but it produces over 300 horsepower. You can spend another $10,000 and upgrade to the Mustang GT (pictured above). The GT comes with a 460-horsepower V8 engine that offers exhilarating acceleration.

If you’re looking to spend some serious money, you can upgrade to the Mustang Shelby GT350 ($57,240), which provides a 526-horsepower V8 engine. The Shelby only comes with a six-speed manual.

For those who are used to muscle cars only being superior in straight line sprints, think again. The Mustang is surprisingly agile, handling corners and sharp turns with ease. It grips the pavement well, and the suspension provides a smooth ride over small bumps and potholes.

The Mustang currently sits in the No. 2 spot of our sports car rankings.
