Best Midsize SUVs in Our Rankings

Sport utility vehicles are among the most popular transport modes on the market, and for good reason. Offered in a variety of sizes, from subcompact to large, chances are you can find the right SUV for your needs. Of the many choices out there, midsize SUVs strike a sweet spot for many shoppers.

With seating for up to eight (in some models) and ample cargo room, midsize SUVs have slowly and surely replaced minivans as the vehicle of choice for families. Commuters or households with fewer people have some great options in two-row midsize SUVs, as well. For weekend warriors who tow a trailer or boat, but don’t need the 10,000-pound+ towing capacity of a pickup truck, some midsize crossovers can fit the bill.

This is a competitive segment, with a lot of money to be made for companies who can put out a great vehicle and get people to buy it. But with so many entries, it can be hard to tell what’s a good midsize SUV and what’s not.

On the following slides, we examine the entire class of midsize SUVs and present them from worst to first. In the case of a tie, both vehicles receive the same rank, then other rank numbers may go unused. Additionally, we exclude luxury and alternative-fuel models from this list. You can find them in our rankings of luxury midsize SUVs and hybrid and electric SUVs.

Keep in mind that our scores and rankings change regularly as we receive and analyze new data, so what you see on this slideshow may not match our current reviews or class rankings.
