Sport utility vehicles are great for hauling people and their stuff. What they aren’t very good at is passing gas stations. Replacing the typical gasoline engine with a diesel power plant helps with efficiency while providing excellent torque for towing and off-road adventures.

In the wake of the Volkswagen Diesel Scandal, adoption of diesel in the U.S. has slowed. Still, there are a number of new diesel entries in the market, and they are nothing like diesels of old. They’re quiet, they’re refined, and they don’t smell like city buses or put out clouds of black smoke.
