2017 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel

MPG: 30 City / 52 Highway // MSRP: $23,795 (Details Below)

Arriving this spring will be Chevy’s latest diesel. The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze sedan is EPA-rated at 30 mpg in the city and 52 mpg on the highway when equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. That’s 12 mpg better than the top-performing gasoline-powered Cruze sedan.

You’ll want to do the math to see if you drive enough to make up the price difference, however. The Cruze Diesel is equipped like a Cruze LT with the convenience package but is about $2,800 more expensive. If you spend a lot of time on the highway, you'll likely make that money back and more over the life of the car. The math for urban drivers leans toward a gasoline-powered Cruze, as the diesel only gains a couple of mpg in the city. The Cruze holds a mid-pack spot in our rankings of compact cars.
