2019 Nissan Leaf

22) 2019 Nissan Leaf

$29,990 | U.S. News Overall Score: 7.9/10

Value: Though it is priced on the lower end for an electric car, in the compact car category the Leaf has one of the highest base prices and the highest total cost of ownership, according to our Best Cars for the Money research. The fuel savings are noticeable, but you’ll pay more than several other vehicles in the class in combined maintenance, repairs, taxes, and fees.

Quality: The Leaf is a solid option among electric vehicles. It will save you at the pump and has plenty of cargo space thanks to its hatchback body style. However, when it goes up against all compact cars, it falls flat. The cabin is appointed in low-quality materials and a lot of hard plastics. And although it hasn’t been rated for safety and predicted reliability this year, it historically performs just “okay.”
