It’s tough to pinpoint any of the challenges facing Baby Boomers because it’s a generation that spans almost 20 years, comprised of Americans born between the years of 1946 and 1964. Baby Boomers can be well into retirement, or they can be decades away from it, with kids still in primary school.

Choosing the right vehicle is largely dependent upon the situation in which Boomers find themselves. They may be looking for a car with a ride height that makes getting in and out very easy, or they may have an active lifestyle that requires a car that can easily handle bike and kayak racks.

One thing that all Baby Boomers face, though is normal change in the eye’s focusing ability, which progresses beginning at the age of about 40, according to the American Optometric Association. New vehicles are now equipped with safety technology like pedestrian detection, pre-collision braking, blind spot monitoring, and lane departure warning systems that provide an added measure of confidence.

Finally, simplicity of controls are important. Some brands like BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Acura all have controls that are frustrating for people of any generation. Some feature hard-to-master proprietary controllers and confusing menu layouts, when a simple touchscreen would do. The following vehicles all carry some combination of these positive attributes that will make them accommodating for anyone, but work especially well for boomers.
