Gas prices have plummeted and SUV sales have taken off. Today’s SUVs have gotten lighter, smarter, safer, and more efficient than ever. The segment that began its life with lumbering, truck-based, full-size SUVs is now dominated by car-like crossovers. Models span from inexpensive subcompact models to massive luxury – and now, ultra-luxury – SUVs.

In just the last year, manufacturers have presented dozens of new models, and many of them have already found their way into top spots in U.S. News & World Report’s Best SUV rankings.
