The Kia Optima is fully redesigned for the 2016 model year. The new model is larger and more spacious than the outgoing model and has new exterior and interior styling, as well as some new features. Despite the changes, one thing that hasn't changed is the Kia Optima’s price. With a starting price of $22,665 including $825 for destination, the 2016 Optima is the same price as the 2015 Optima.
At that price, the Optima's undercuts the 2016 Toyota Camry ($23,905) and 2016 Honda Accord ($22,925). The 2016 Mazda6 has a lower starting price of $22,315 with its base manual transmission, but opting for the automatic raises the sticker to $23,815. The 2016 Hyundai Sonata starts at a slightly lower $22,585, and as we reported last month, the redesigned 2016 Chevrolet Malibu starts at $22,500.
The 2016 Kia Optima comes standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 185 horsepower. There are two optional turbocharged engines: a 1.6-liter four-cylinder that makes 178 horsepower and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 245 horsepower. The base engine and 2.0-liter engine are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and the 1.6-liter engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Fuel economy with the base engine is an EPA-estimated 24/35 mpg city/highway. With the 1.6- and 2.0-liter turbocharged engines, the Optima carries EPA ratings of 28/39 mpg and 22/32 mpg, respectively.
There are five trim levels for the new Optima, ranging from the base LX to the top SXL. Standard features in the 2016 Optima include satellite radio, a six-speaker audio system, a rearview camera, a USB port and Bluetooth. Optional features include rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats, navigation and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound audio system.
